Between the two of them, they MIGHT play 120 games.

Moncada could pull off a dead cat bounce season, and parlay that into some 3/50 contract with somebody. I think TA's cooked, personally. He's AAAA depth, at this point.

Of all of the organizations for Yoan and TA to end up with, The Angels have to be around the worst.  They seem to have so many perpetually injured players, I do wonder if they are missing something in their training programs.

Luck. Outside of football, most athletes don't train with the team. If Trout was training with the Angels, you think they would have him built like a linebacker?

This is...a weird post. 

1. Yoan Moncada was with the White Sox from 2017-2024, 8 seasons. Out of those 8 seasons, two of them would be considered "really good" and the other six can only be described as "really bad". His career WAR with the White Sox is 14.7 over 8 seasons. Not really what I'm looking for out of a 72 million dollar investment. 

2. Incredibly small sample size, but in 31 PA's in the playoffs, he put up a .172/.226/.172 slash line, with no XBH. 

3. Not sure how we really judge the "good teammate" comment. Were you in the lockerrrom and we just didn't know it? If you weren't, not really sure what you're basing that on. He didn't really leave his team in a good spot with his injury history (who remembers when he had his rehab halted last year for "anticipated soreness"?)

Not trying to be overly critical, and I have zero issues if you want to pull for him with LAA, that's cool. I just don't feel like his time should be remembered here fondly, he was a pretty massive disappointment and was a key reason why that "core' failed.

By all accounts, he's a good guy that couldn't stay healthy. I don't hold that against him and hope he succeeds in his next venture. It's just being a decent human being.

Tony: FYI, these are comments I got from individuals connected to the Sox for a story I did in November 2022. They don't speak well of Moncada in general. I spoke to six people for the story.

“The problem is some of these guys just don’t care, they want to win sure but they already have gotten their money with these contracts before they proved anything. Moncada would strike out and just walk back to the dugout like no big deal, he fouls a ball off and now he can’t play for three days? His contract makes him untradable but he needs to go.”

"Another one was the Triple Play Game  against the Twins. (Author’s Note: The Sox ran themselves into an 8-5 triple play on July 4. They wound up losing the game 6-3 in extra innings) Adam Engel faced the music afterwards, he made a mistake and owned up to it. Moncada who also made a mistake was nowhere, he was already gone. Then the next day he was saying that he didn’t know people wanted to talk with him.”

“It could happen, maybe there’s a 5% chance this front office could get it right. But first the front office has to admit they made mistakes. The catcher (Yamani Grandal), third baseman (Moncada) and shortstop (Tim Anderson) need to go. They need to get guys with a higher baseball acumen, the lack of urgency, the way they beat themselves this season was embarrassing."

Who is penciled in as the Sox 3B and SS this season. Has to be a worse combo than even last year. It's scary that on paper we should lose every series we play this season. The Sox are a bunch of no names. I'd like someone on this board to write me 6-12 paragraphs on a best case scenario for our team for THIS season. It's hard for me to predict even fewer wins than 2024 but to me this is a far worse club than 2024. .... To me, I've never seen a weaker bunch of stiffs on the infield and catcher (hitting wise) and there has never been a no name pitching staff in Sox history like this one. I will say the outfield is OK with Beni and Robert. I'm actually surprised Beni is still with this club. He'd be perfect back on the Royals.

For the record, when I said the Sox trash their players, this is exactly what I was talking about.  They piss on their own players all of the time.

For a long time too. When Maggs left, when the Big Hurt left, Jermaine Dye.... almost every time a guy who contributed a lot to the organization left, they trashed him.

To be fair when Scott Boras refused to share Magglio's medical records with the Sox I could completely understand why Kenny went off. And when Mags ripped the organization that probably didn't help matters.

February 7, 2005 - After one of the more acrimonious disputes in team history, four-time All-Star Magglio Ordonez signed a free agent deal with Detroit. Ordonez engaged Sox management in a war of words over how he was treated, the contract offered to him and his health status. Magglio’s agent, Scott Boras, refused to turn over medical information, which infuriated G.M. Kenny Williams and basically sealed Ordonez’s fate. Then manager Ozzie Guillen publicly called out Ordonez in no uncertain terms as well over the contract situation. Considering the severity of his knee injury, which required a secret trip to Austria for experimental surgery, it was hard to blame the Sox for their stance.  

Ordonez, who was almost traded to the Red Sox at the winter meetings in 2003 for Nomar Garciaparra, played with the team for six full seasons and parts of two others with 187 home runs and 702 RBI’s. In his full seasons he never hit less than .282 and in five of those years he was over .300.
