Balta1701
There is a March ******* basketball thread that we’ve been using. I can’t believe Mike Woodson has been this bad at the non-recruiting parts of his job, but he looks soon out.
Buehrle>Wood
The coaching candidate pool seems pretty shallow this year. Maybe they can get Jay Wright out retirement but they certainly missed the both with others. Regardless, IU coaching searches are peak delusional entertainment. Expand With the amount of resources available to that program, the amount of fan interest, it just shouldn’t be this hard to be a regular tournament team. It just shouldn’t. You should not have a roster of high level transfers and 5 star recruits and miss the tournament. This isn’t unreasonable.

Expand It can’t hurt to put the call in but no I don’t expect the GM of the NBA champs to change jobs. When I hear I’m delusional I can’t figure out how wanting competitive BBall in March most years is delusional. An Indiana/Big ten tournament late round competitive game will be one of the highest viewed CBB games of the year, but we can’t even get this half the time. Expand Try being an Iowa fan and just wanting to get back to the Sweet 16 once since the late 90s. I know Indiana Knight 70s and 80s Natty's...movie Hoosiers used to be all-time Top 3-5 program and the spiritual home of basketball in the US etc. We did somehow luck upon the Murray Brothers and Luka Garza but the future is all NIL for the women's program right now. What interest there was remaining inmen's, Captain Clark s iPhone off half of it. Can't even think of even one promising coach to replace the over paid Fran McCaffrey. Expand I have no problem admitting that the Hoosiers aren't a top 3-5 program right now. However, look at the list: Their facilities are strong, everything's in good shape and there are regular updates. They have one of the best home crowds in the country They have a very large NIL budget - according to Yahoo Sports it is thought to be in the top 5 in the country When they are actually good, or even decent, the television numbers are great - 2 years ago when they made a run to the big 10 title game, several of their games were in the top 10 of the year for viewership. There is zero reason for a team like this to be missing the tournament regularly. Zero. That's not a title contender, fine, I'll worry about that another time - there is zero reason for a team with this profile to not be a top 68 team. Heads22
I assume Indiana will at least check in on Ames, Iowa.

Expand Quite simply...if you grew up in the 70s and 80s and early 90s...it was Indiana UCLA Kentucky Duke UNC and Kansas that were the blue bloods. Now you have UConn, Gonzaga, the SEC strength across the league, especially at the top. Florida was in there for awhile. Butler, etc. Arizona. I can't blame Caitlin Clark and the Fever for this one...if anything...there's even more interest in the state overall for BB. The best answer might be Purdue's ascendancy...and Illinois to a lesser extent, Michigan and MSU to the north. Definitely not ND, either. They need another early "ascending" Brad Stevens-like coach in their 30s and 40s that's not associated with "old school" Indiana, Alfords or Woodson or Isaiah Thomas...for example, Tom Crean could definitely recruit well, but coaching was suspect. TJ in Ames an obvious choice, although they have stumbled a BIT recently. Edited February 15 by caulfield12
Heads22
The last I heard he had about $2 million to work with on the roster. I'm not sure he's John Wooden for X's and O's but his roster construction has been fantastic. No idea if he'd ever look to leave anytime soon (he's way more likely to stay than Hoiberg was). I would imagine Virginia will be looking at him too as he is connected to the Bennetts.
caulfield12
https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/is-the-head-coach-position-at-indiana-still-a-top-job-in-college-basketball-in-2025/ Saying Indiana has only made one Elite Eight in more than 30 years stings, and just two NCAA Tournament appearances in what will probably be nine years here in a month is a soul-crushing reality. You know about the success prior to that — five national titles, eight Final Fours, 22 Big Ten titles, 68 NCAA Tournament wins. The list goes on and on. But both as it relates to the historic success or the more recent disappointment, the past is not prologue. There is nothing about Indiana’s long run as one of college basketball’s elite that guarantees the Hoosiers will continue in that realm. We’ve all seen that harsh reality play out before our eyes now for far too long. But there is also nothing about this Indiana program that makes it an irredeemable mediocrity. caulfield12
Niko Medved is going to be the hottest coaching commodity if he can knock off Memphis and MD consecutively. Former Drake coach. That connection proliferating on both the men's and women's side recently. Looks like MD pulled it out in the end.
