"Promoted in September 2023, Gray had been an org soldier through the Rays system as part of the return for traded OF Corey Dickerson. He was given a single-digit jersey, and stuck around long enough to hit his first career homerun before being sent back to the minors and designated off the 40-man roster at the end of the season. Gray is known to be a utility defender, with the chops to play primarily SS as needed, and a Grade-A human, so it’s no surprise it’s exactly the type of player Bendix would target as he looks to transform the Marlins into a forward looking organization, even if Gray is a minor league depth signing." https://www.draysbay.com/2023/11/17/23965650/rays-ss-tristan-gray-signs-with-peter-bendixs-miami-marlins "Gray has played in just 17 big-league games for the Athletics and the Marlins last season. There is not much to write home about those games as he posted a .152/.222/.273/.495 slash line with one home run. He does have a .765 OPS in seven minor-league seasons. He has also hit 82 home runs over the past three seasons in the minors. While he is 28, this is another signing the White Sox should be making to see if he can still be something given the expectations for winning this season is super low. Plus, he can play second and third, so he also has a shot to make the club in a utility role." https://southsideshowdown.com/chicago-white-sox-make-two-more-practical-moves-adding-tristan-gray-brandon-drury-infield-mix Edited March 1 by caulfield12

It just feels that if they're going to shoehorn Monty into the starting SS role, the IF bench player could come from a group that has Amaya, Baldwin and Gray in it. Maybe more. Amaya got a good look last September and OPSed a robust .419. We're in week two of a 5-week spring training. Dream scenario would be Ramos, Baldwin, Meidroth, Vargas/Sosa, infield 3rd to 1st, but they have other players on the roster and in the organization. Beyond the manager saying Vargas has a clear path to 3B innings, and Vaughn name on the scorecard in ink, everything is up for grabs. caulfield12
White Sox 19 actual RS in 7 games. 2.7 runs per game. #2/3??? (Well the Cubs have 62 in just 6.) Braves just 31 in 7 (4.43), but a 5-2 record due to only 18 runs surrendered. Sounds pretty good. Astros just 30 in 7. Still over 4. 4.3 rpg. Twins 24 in 6 (3-3 though). 4 runs per game. Marlins 25 in 5. 5 per game. Red Sox 27 in 6. 4.5. That's almost 50% worse than the second worst offense in the entire major leagues...which is not very easy to do, actually.
