Coffey is being hurt by Sox desire to churn roster. If they clear some of the guys they have claimed on waivers by midseason, maybe he’ll get a shot. I think he’s earned it.

It looks like they are going with retreat vets to start the season. I bet they bring up the prospects in waves after a couple of months and clear it out.

They are already tanking with injuries and the fix is in. Reinsdorf wants to move the team to a nuclear waste site at Chernobyl.

I think Ukraine might even reject the White Sox.

They're instead going to rebuild the biggest plane in the world.  That would be easier.

"Someone that you feel can make some starts for you and give you bulk innings, just made this more attractive," said general manager Chris Getz. "We actually did a fair amount of work on [Vasil] this offseason, prior to the Rule 5 draft in which we decided to take Shane Smith. And so, you track situations and the players throughout spring training and when he became available on waivers, looking at the upside that he can bring long-term based on his his ability to be a starter in the future, but also has stuff that kind of aligns with our kind of pitching process that we feel like we can help maximize. So, to have two Rule 5 picks on a roster is a bit unique, but considering our situation right now where we are as an organization, we felt like this is worth the effort."

James Fegan, soxmachine.com

Looks like the White Sox are VERY concerned about starting pitching depth now behind Wilson/Nastrini/Iriarte/Owen White (if he's still in the org).

A reunion with Brandon Drury seems at least POSSIBLE, if not probable.

Also, Dane Dunning cut by the Rangers...obvious Venable as well as ex-Sox connection there.  Was going to make $2.5 million had he made the club.

Unless Dunning is injured, there is no reason at all for Getz to NOT put in a claim for him.

In 2023, he had an ERA of 116+, delivered a 2.7 WAR and started 26 games for a World Series-winning team. He pitched in each round of the postseason that year, and he even pitched briefly in the playoffs for us five years ago.

Yes, he had an off year last season. But he still would be one of the top starters in our rotation right now.

I would much rather have Dunning, who has accomplished some good things at this level, than Vasil.

Bench/Utility (3): Drury, Sosa, Baldwin
Others: Meidroth, Amaya, Dalbec, Jankowski
If Meidroth does not force his way into the starting lineup, is he considered someone who could play three or four times per week? Drury, as a veteran with a non-roster invite, has had an impressive camp, and Baldwin can play almost anywhere on the field. Sosa has hit the ball well during camp and is out of options.

Bullpen (8): Justin Anderson, Mike Clevinger, Cam Booser (L), Gus Varland/Vasil, Penn Murfee, Fraser Ellard (L), Wilson, Tyler Gilbert (L)
Others: Jordan Leasure, James Karinchak, Steven Wilson, Brandon Eisert
Clevinger, a non-roster invite, has hit all the Spring Training marks in pushing toward his first career opportunity as a closer, although Venable doesn’t seem inclined to name a set candidate for that role. Nobody was more impressive than right-hander Grant Taylor, the White Sox No. 7 prospect, who was reassigned to Minor League camp.

Smart, let him get more comfortable.  Definitely seemed to be pressing.

Yeah, didn't look comfortable.

I still say the plan is to start all the retread (retreat) veterans in the first part of the year. Let all the prospects start the year in the minors then bring them up in waves as they are comfortable.

Yep if both him and Amaya are going to be awful at the plate in the majors, go with the better defender and see if Meidroth can figure something out in Charlotte.

Probably the right way to go but this has absolutely no entertainment value.  I find it hard to cheer for Jerry's wallet.

Jerry's wallet is even going to get it's ass kicked this season.  Between the fall offs in attendance, advertisting, and TV money, it is going to be a very bad year for him and the investors, after about five straight years of lower than normal returns.

Couldn’t happen to a worse owner.
