JUSTgottaBELIEVE
I would have liked this signing for the Sox so that they don’t feel obligated to rush Montgomery and/or roster a bum like Amaya. Also, Dejong has flip potential as I wouldn’t mind another prospect like Jarold Rosado in return come July.

DeJong hit 18 home runs for a team starved, STARVED for power, and then he was flipped for a prospect. That was exactly what Getz and management was hoping to get out of that signing. A total win.

Expand Yes, let me bow down to our GM’s greatness. He also forced us to watch the suck that is Vargas going forward and that Cease trade ain’t looking so hot these days. He also traded for a 5’6” outfielder that he is now looking for excuses to not play by signing 3 (maybe 4 if Gallo makes the team) over-the-hill veteran outfielders. Anti-Getz bias? The guy blows… But let me praise him for a trade that netted an A-ball reliever after he failed numerous other trades. Expand Question for you on the Fletcher situation. Would you prefer Getz: A) Acknowledge the trade was a mistake by burying Fletcher on the depth chart and playing the vets instead B) Give Fletcher more at bats/time (BTW I know the correct answer is “C) None of the above because both of those options suck” but that’s too easy)

He’s 27 years old and you already traded Mena for him. It’s now or never so you may as well play him. Why the hell would a team that will likely lose 100 games sign a starting platoon RF of old mediocre players instead, that likely won’t be flipped for anything of value? Fletcher has 241 plate appearances with the Sox. He’s already a sunk cost and the Sox still haven’t given him enough playing time. Getz is clueless and moves like this make him look way in over his head. What are we doing here giving playing time to Tauchman and Slater? Getz is clueless and moves like this make him look way in over his head. What are we doing here giving playing time to Tauchman and Slater? Expand Wait a minute. When I said yesterday that all of Fletcher, DeLoach, Colas, Julks and Cal Mitchell are replacement level, you barreled in and declared that they're not even that. If Fletcher is below replacement level, and has shown in a full season's worth of PAs that he's "hot garbage" and a "bum", why are you advocating for starting him another year? The reason you would sign a veteran platoon to start over 5 sub-replacement level AAAA OFs (your assessment) is that you don't have the OF depth at the upper levels to cover positions for a period long enough that would expose most AAAA OFs. Or maybe to not set the loss record for 2 years in a row. Again, if the loss record doesn't matter, then stop mentioning it as reasons why Chris Getz sucks. Because you admit it doesn't matter. And seriously, it was so Rick Hahn to hang onto a player, and give him unlimited playing time in the hope that he would eventually run into a couple hits. Weird that you haven't internalized the sunk cost lessons of JB Shuck, or Adam Engel, Charlie Tilson, Ryan Cordell or Leury. Dominic Fletcher should now have to play his way back into major league playing time.

Expand He was technically the best hitter on the White Sox last year...at the very least, he had the highest fWAR, which, once again...isn't saying all that much. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/paul-dejong/18015/stats?position=SS For the full year, he was at 1.7 fWAR. Pretty sure Luis Robert at 0.5 was the second highest on the team. Maybe Pham? https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&type=8&season=2024&month=0&season1=2024&ind=0&team=4&qual=300 DeJong was actually 1.0 (just with the Sox until the trade deadline, not overall) and Nicky Lopez 0.9 due to his defensive position. Pham 0.2 and Lenyn Sosa 0.1 fwar, fwiw. And that was pretty much it for positive contributors. Edited February 19 by caulfield12
