They're worth whatever Ishbia is willing to pay for them?  it's not the shares themselves...it's a separate issue of control person.  That's not related to a certain block of shares per se.

Even then we're still talking $100 millionish in cap gains...that's a rounding error for the Suns/Ishbias.

It's all about Jerry's ego/legacy at this point.

But basically the same reason the Pohlads want out in Minnesota.  No longer as much fun for them...having had the family (multiple generations) involved for 40-50 years now.

Yes that is correct. And he is almost certainly going to be paying more for Jerry's more valuable shares.

Just talked to a dude who is friends with Justin Ishbia.  Was told that Ishbia was negotiating with Jerry for the past year to do a deal and that “it’s happening” now after Jerry reached out to him with some sort of proposal.  Sounds like it will happening in the not too distant future.  Nothing we don’t know other than than the timing.

Lets hope that something happens soon. Most White Sox fans aren't too optimistic about things turning around under the present ownership. I couldn't help but notice on Ticketmaster that the White Sox home opener has thousands of unsold tickets. New ownership would provide some hope for the future.

It is always hard to sell out the 500 level there. They are bad seats too far from the field and too high.

My dropping MLB.TV has probably gotten through to JR that the time is now.

If true, how does his bid to buy the Twins during this timeframe fit into that?    Did he think negotiations weren't progressing and then turned to the Twins when they went up for sale?

Possibly...then JR countered when he saw his last/best chance flipping through his fingers.

I’m speculating here, but I really think this comes down to Jerry realizing he doesn’t have a lot of time left and doesn’t want to lose out on a super rich potential buyer with Chicago ties.  Ishbia bought a single mid digit amount of shares back in 2021 and it sounds like he had been pushing to outright buy the team for some time.  I think he eventually got tired of waiting and decided to take advantage of the Twins opportunity because Jerry wasn’t budging.

Regardless, we do know that the threat of Ishbia buying the Twins led to Jerry proposing something to Ishbia and created this first initial domino to make him the biggest shareholder of the Sox.  A transfer of control will be happening at some point before Jerry dies based on my conversation yesterday and I don’t think it will be multiple years from now.  I fully expect some sort of deal to take place similar to what happened with the Orioles.  Just not sure if that’s later this year, next season, etc.

Honestly, the guy I talked to didn’t say much we didn’t already know other than reaffirming that there is a bigger deal in the works and it will be agreed to prior to Jerry’s death which many of us were already speculating.  Nonetheless, as someone who’s desperate to escape Jerry’s reign of terror I will happily take any little tidbit that suggests Ishbia will be in control sooner rather than later as a positive.

A big part of it must be having no way forward with getting significant public stadium funding without his own skin in the game...losing the local tv ownership...and having no remaining  desire to spend in FA.

Dan Hayes was on the SoxMachine podcast last week. What he seemed to imply was that Ishbia used the Twins to push Jerry towards a meeting of the minds.

Rate stadium, parking areas, ChiSox bar and grill, merchandise stores, concessions,  etc, are a goldmine for the Sox and a money maker for taxpayers/ISFA.   Sox just need to field a competitive/ interesting team that is fun to watch. Added ticket sales and viewership will follow.

Look at how the Bulls have increased fan interest by assembling a young team that is starting to compete. If you watched their last two wins in Florida you know what I am talking about. No they are not going to win a championship any time soon, but their likeable young players are fun to watch. That is what we need on the South side and it has been a looooong time since we had that.

Applies to the blackhawks as well. Drastic difference with some of the young talent making it's way.

In all modesty, if I was hired as the GM  and given a free hand this White Sox team would  be much better than what it is now.

And all they other GMs would take every deal you offer?

To be honest, the dream is Ishbia coming in, building a beautiful new park at the 78, and having a couple mega free agents to supplement young core.  I love going to the Rate but it’s time for a new, better fan experience in an area that will drive better attendance and lead to higher, more sustainable payrolls.

The 78 cannot be built on.  It’s basically Chernobyl circa 1986.

There’s a reason nothing has been built there since it was railroad yard, I’m not sold on it being a place that would cure all the Sox woes.
I’m thinking of the suburbs like the Braves entertainment area or even building a jewel of a ballpark on the site of old Comiskey with an emphasis on building up the area along with a modern day Comiskey with no upper deck in left field so the skyline would be visible, of course no posts and the lower bowl with seats down the lines facing the infield, Busch Stadium in St.Louis would be a good model but as I said with no UD in left field. PNC Park would also be a great model without the huge scoreboard in left field as that would block out views of the skyline.
Somehow the fan base must return to past levels, that’s a monumental task as Reinsdorf has basically destroyed it, Ishbia if he buys the franchise is going to have to spend a lot of money and bring in quality free agents and give the fans some kind of hope.

I think a new owner would be like drafting a QB 1-1. It would excite the fanbase tremendously, and would probably increase attendance immediately. There would be a "youre not jerry Reinsdorf" party for a couple of seasons at least.  Eventually the honeymoon ends, so hopefully Ishbia is more Peyton Manning than Mitch Trubisky.
