It looks like Gilbert, Eder, Taylor and Carella did well today.

How dare you say anything positive.

I realize good fans are listening to the game but to feel the need to put everything you see down is weird to me.

I thought when you love baseball and the Sox are the team you root for and knowing it's a rebuild you'd look for some positive signs. But can't discount people's needs to be miserable.

Carela throws about as hard as Thorpe...definitely a finesse guy.

Taylor was the stand out.

Jac Caglianone hit a massive bomb.

Julks was highlight on offense but struggled with the sun/wall on defense like Colas the day before.

Grant not Michael A. .

What stuck out to both players was the vibe at Fenway South, even for a Spring Training game.

“Just having some good fan turnout helped a lot,” Crochet said. “That's probably the most people I've thrown in front of in Spring Training so it's cool to kind of get the juices going early.”

Bro we just set the all time loss record and are projected for 50 wins. We can save the sanctimonious critiques of the downers because we are historically awful, ya know?

And if one is so excited about mediocre to bad baseball, why does he care what anyone else thinks?  Why can’t he just be happy watching Jerry’s garbage product without feeling the need for others to be excited about it?

Because I like baseball and I like looking forward to better times not wallowing in misery. I'd rather look at the 15 pitchers who pitched in the 2 games and say 11  of them didn't give up any runs.

3 HRs in 2 games and 2 of them came from guys not on the team last year.

6 of 8 pitchers didn't give up any runs against the Cubs 5 of them weren't on the team last year.

5 of the 7 pitchers didn't give up any runs against the Royals. All 5 of them weren't on the Sox last year.

This is what coaches do. They accentuate the positive. Do you want your kids coached by guys who tell them they suck ? Kids become afraid to fail in sports because failure breeds negativity . They end up quitting rather than risk the hate that comes with failing in sports.   They need to know you won't hate them like they see you hating on your favorite team yelling at your TV. If you understand that they are reflections of your actions then why wouldn't you want to be more kind around them so they aren't afraid to fail. It's like Lord of the fucking Flies in here.

I get gallows humor but beating a dead horse because everyone's doing it is grim and horrifying. Kill the pig, bash it's head !

This also isn't ethnic cleaning or genocide.

People have all kinds of different things they're looking for out of sports.

Some are just looking for entertainment/diversion...others connect the team to the past or time spent with family and friends.

I guarantee the mood will pick up significantly if there's legitimately going to be some type of clarity forthcoming and a success ion time table provided.

Ambiguity/uncertainty/lack of clarity...diminished hope and frustration lead to dark humor reflecting cold inexoranble reality, simply because 41-121 is such a ridiculously bad performance for a non expansion team.

But the reason sites like WSI are no more is because posters felt like they were constrained in expressing opinions and had to suppress negative thoughts for performative fandom just to please the mods.

Now we've swung over to the other side of the pendulum where even the most optimistic posters have become "Jaded and cynical" in their 30s and 40s.  And for lots of good reasons...hoping and trusting in the franchise has left them constantly disappointed and feeling lied to or misled.

Those fans wouldn't be happy with even the consensus #1 farm system if it never led to more than a .500 record. In that sense, it's much easier to be a Doubting Thomas than a "true believer" because it's simply self-protection...we've simply seen it way too many times since the early 1980's.

Pallette and Taylor coming back strong make me feel better about Blake Larson's chances. Shane Smith's start today is important.

There's a lot to root for and dream on in the pitching corps. I'm actually proud to be name-checked as the upper threshold of positivity, like, if I'm not rooting for a guy, he's got problems.

Shane Smith's whole spring is important.  The rule 5 is where you can pick up undervalued talent so what he does this spring is the determining factor for keeping him all year or cutting him loose.
