DirtySox
10 Intriguing Opening Day Assignments https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/10-intriguing-opening-day-assignments-to-begin-2025-milb-season/ Quote 8. Braden Montgomery, OF, White Sox Assignment: Low-A Kannapolis Montgomery was part of the massive haul of prospects the White Sox received from Boston in order to acquire lefthander Garrett Crochet. The product of both Stanford and Texas A&M was a two-way player at times in college but emerged as more of an offensive prospect toward the end of his amateur tenure. An ankle injury suffered in the 2024 college postseason kept him from making his pro debut afterward. Instead, he’ll be officially unveiled on April 4 with Kannapolis. Given his pedigree with two of college baseball’s highest-profile programs, it’s a little surprising that Montgomery is not starting at least at High-A. If he hits early, it shouldn’t be long before he moves to Winston-Salem. Expand Quote 10. Noah Schultz, LHP, White Sox Assignment: Double-A Birmingham Schultz is Chicago’s unquestioned top prospect and one of the very best pitching prospects in the sport. He spent last summer fricasseeing hitters for short bursts and worked to a 1.48 ERA with 73 strikeouts in 61 innings at Double-A Birmingham. Now, he’s headed back to the level for further seasoning. The only blemish on Schultz’s pro career has been health and durability, and he’s been handled carefully as a result. If he continues what he started in 2024, Schultz should be off to Charlotte in short order and might have a chance to make his big league debut before the summer is out. DirtySox
BA updated their top 100. Quero is now 100 and Colson has fallen precipitously as one would expect. This is from the Risers/Fallers article. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/risers-fallers-new-additions-to-april-2025-top-100-prospects-update/ Quote Edgar Quero, C, White Sox Previous: Unranked Now: No. 100 Much like Nimmala, Quero was a just-missed prospect in our offseason Top 100. He’s pairing with fellow Top 100 Prospect Kyle Teel at Triple-A Charlotte in a job share at catcher. The two may end up moving up to the White Sox to do the same in the major leagues before too long. Expand Quote Colson Montgomery, SS, White Sox Previous: No. 39 Now: No. 72 Montgomery came into spring training with an outside shot of winning the White Sox’s wide-open big league shortstop job. Instead, he struck out in five of nine plate appearances and was quickly sent back to minor league camp. In a return to Triple-A Charlotte, Montgomery homered in the opener. But as of Thursday afternoon, that was his only hit of the season while striking out 15 times in 22 plate appearances. He’s still young for the level, but the confidence that Montgomery is going to get back to his 2022-2023 form is starting to wane. Lip Man 1
"Entering Charlotte’s game Friday, Montgomery had yet to draw a walk and had struck out 15 times. DirtySox
Both Meidroth and Quero made the hot sheet over at BA. Quote 3. Chase Meidroth, 3B, White Sox Team: Triple-A Charlotte (International) Age: 23 Why He’s Here: .333/.500/.750 (8-for-24), 11 R, 1 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 4 RBIs, 7 BB, 4 SO, 2-for-2 SB The Scoop: The first seven games of 2025 have seen the Meidroth showcasing power at a rate he had not previously. Based on Meidroth’s steeper launch angles, he’s added loft to his swing, and it’s showing up as home run power. He has one of the more polished hit tools in the minors leagues, running high walk rates and low strikeout rates. He’s reached base in every game but one so far and capped off the week with a 3-for-3 game with a home run on Sunday. Meidroth is already knocking on the door to the big leagues and could be up within the next month if he keeps this up. (GP) Expand Quote 12. Edgar Quero, C, White Sox Team: Triple-A Charlotte (International) Age: 22 Why He’s Here: .379/.500/.517 (11-for-29), 8 R, 1 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 2 RBIs, 7 BB, 9 SO The Scoop: The role of catcher of the future in Chicago is a two-man race between a pair of trade acquisitions: Kyle Teel (from the Red Sox) and Quero (from the Angels). Over the first weeks of the Triple-A season, the latter has made his case loud and clear. The 22-year-old backstop swatted his first double and home run of the season over eight games and has racked up nearly as many walks (7) as strikeouts (9). Ultimately, both Quero and Teel have plenty of offensive upside, and whichever player provides better defense will likely get the lion’s share of the catching duties over the next decade. Both, however, should contribute to what the White Sox believe will be a reversal of their recent fortunes.
