Expand I had no opinion of Meidroth prior to the trade -- except that his name makes him sound like he's a dark lord of Mordor or a Wizard of the Sword Coast or some s%*# -- which is objectively awesome but doesn't necessarily speak to an ability to swing a bat. But since then everyone is talking about how he's secretly great and never K's, he has the 'sneaky' profile of a star player, he's essentially Luis Arraez or Ichiro; and yet they've been downplaying Braden a little bit, a guy I thought we could've taken fifth and who has done nothing since then to change that opinion. All I'm saying is that you guys made me start to have expectations for him, you can't just pull the rug out from under me like that telling me to moderate my expectations. I still think 2b is Lenyn's job to lose though, that guy is actually gonna be great.

I’ve seen him swing and miss a ton and his swing reminds me a bit of Pedroia’s, except he doesn’t have his power.

How are they building a lineup if a few of these guys fail? Expand Look at the Royals and Tigers: the have like 3 good hitters each (one of the Royals' is a great hitter). It surprises me when I look at the stats at how modest the stats of a lot of the playoff teams are. That's why I'm reasonably optimistic. If we get the pitching right, and we're moving in that direction, 4 or 5 good young hitters plus a FA or 2, and we're back in business. Admittedly, right now, the Sox have zero good young hitters, so they need to get on with it.

Expand Giles was a 12 HR guy with great obp and acceptable defense. Pedroia and Utley were MVP candidates and borderline hall of famers. Meidroth will never be near that. I like Baldwin's athleticism, but he looks so weak. Baldwin in the steroid era would be an absolute beast, top prospect, certified stud.
TaylorStSox
Another thing, I don't give a s%*# about who gets credit, but Crochet had zero value at this time last year. He might have had negative value. That he was turned into 4 legit prospects - one with star potential - is a major win for the organization. mac9001
Meidroth had an average EV of 88.6 last year with a 34% hard hit rate (EV 95+). Colson was at 85.8 and 34.2% respectively. Difference between them is Meideoth hits everything on the ground or a line (thus high BABIP, low HR), while Colon his everything in the air (below avg BABIP, average HR rate). He has no issue making solid hard contact, he's just not putting it on the air and thus won't generate XBH. But with his plate discipline and ability to hit the ball hard on the ground he'll be able to maintain an above average batting avg and likely elite OBP (with minimal ISO). If he plays an avg 2B he'll have plenty of value, the floor is high enough where he'll have a long MLB career. I don't really know what happened to that guy. But if anyone on our team could produce 8 WAR over the course of a season, sign me up. I forget what player we were talking about, Lenyn Sosa maybe? Regardless, if any Sox prospect can produce a positive WAR, it's a step in the right direction.

You then bring up bip or bap or some other silly pitcher rating that showed that those five really good, solid games were luck, not Thorpe's good pitching. 2
