Dan Bernstein FIRED!

He appealed to the non-athlete who thought they knew more about sports than the people involved as that's the way he was. He refused to have the athletes on as they didn't know enough about their sport particularly baseball. He was one of the first to really push analytics because the smart people knew more about baseball than the scouts and people who played.

He made the average listener feel more important.

He was clearly an intellectual and that made the blue collar fans uncomfortable. He wasn't a super nice dude but he was clearly super smart. I hope he gets the help he needs.

And it's the same story over and over again, if you have enough energy to complain about him, the score did right by hiring him. He's had a pretty successful career since being chosen as Mike Greenberg's replacement.

Last thing I'll say on the subject: most of the legendary broadcasters with any balls gets fired.

Thus us a very generous way to put it. He tried to make them feel uncomfortable and then make them believe they could know more because of his gift of knowledge to them so they could know more than the people who run the teams or played.

There is no doubt he was a good hire and made them money as controversy sells. Just too bad he finally started to believe his shtick too much

Bernstein deserved to be fired no doubt, but the guy he was fighting with on Twitter is also a little b****.  He reached out to the FBI over a little fake tough guy talk?  Lol…I fucking hate social media so much.

Man, you drag someone's kids into it, it's over.

I honestly did not think people would be talking about this so much. Dave Portnoy was talking about it on Twitter. I didn't think Bernstein's reach went outside of Chicago.

This is directly due to the last beef Barstool Sports had with Bernstein when he was a dick to Barstool Eddie for no apparent reason other than calling him by his name.

Bernstein has been a joke ever since Boers retired.  It’s not a surprise that he’s been cycled through numerous co-hosts since then.

Part of it had to do with the dynamics of sports radio and the economic situations and not necessarily Bernstein though.

True.  But also, many listeners didn’t want to hear a couple of sports radio co-hosts focusing on their political views over talking sports.  The Score has been The Snore due to this for the past 10 years, and Bernstein was the biggest culprit along with Lawrence Holmes to a lesser extent.  As if anyone needed more proof that the news media is biased, these clowns made it their job to ensure that it was obvious.  Afterall, why would sports radio talk politics…  ever?

I’ve been listening to Bernstein for 20 years. I can’t believe what he did last week. It’s why the mute button exists. If you can’t handle shitty assholes on Twitter right now, you need to delete the app. With that being said, 670 lost their two best hosts in last 7 months. They need a major lineup overhaul.

This. He was the only reason I still listened on occasion. Don't get me wrong, it was still a far cry from his B&B glory days. But the current hosts suck absolute ass. Afternoon show is garbage without Parkins. Harris is a complete mess. The Midday show will now be completely unlistenable. Harris and Leila? Puke.

Bernstein had offers to be go national just like Greenberg did. He chose to stay as a local Chicago guy though. However, that was 20 years ago. Local radio guys were making big bucks back then.

This is what killed the Bernstein and Goff show. I really enjoyed Bernstein back then, as that was right after the end of B&B. But Bernstein and Goff was terrible. It would always devolve into them ripping into a caller for being racist.

The Score sucks now. Still living off the reputation of the glory days. Sports gambling is the only thing keeping it alive.

Agreed, always seems like he wanted to be a "real" radio host instead of a sports radio host at times.

Isn't this part of Mike North's downfall? He was the biggest draw on the score. He broke up North and Jiggetts so he could have his own solo show. From what I heard, he often had non-sports segment on his show.

Non-sports but didn't go into the hotbed that's politics as I recall. North got phased out when the stations got bigger and they went from fans on the radio to real journalists as Bernstein would say. He still mocked north and others who didn't come through the ranks of covering teams or newspapers.

Bernstein got completely played by the random guy.  For as much of an intellectual he likes to tout that is, he flipped his s%*# and threatened the guy and his kids publicly over the man questioning if he followed “catch and release” rules with the fish he caught.  Think Bernstein may have anger issues he needs to deal with?  Also, imagine losing your job because you flipped your s%*# on a random guy questioning you about a fucking fish?  Finally, do you think 5’7” Bernstein is saying anything he has tweeted to anyone’s face?  Hell no.

North had a couple of ugly on air instances at the end there, and also got in hot water for some of his “china man” references I think about Fukudome.  Him and Ozzie telling each other to f*** off wasn’t good lol

North, McNeil and Bernstein drew listeners at their peak and were great on the air.  All self destructed in different manners.

Bernstein was done in by his narcissism.

I thought his ratings were really good.  I did not like that I liked to listen to him at times as while he is an egomaniac it did not feel like you were listening to dead air.

I'm in the camp that it was probably a money issue with Audacy and they found a way out.

I don’t think that was the main reason but it was definitely a side advantage of Bernstein saying something stupid and causing his own firing.  The dude literally threatened a guy and his kids and didn’t even attempt to delete the tweets — probably because he was smart enough to know that they were screenshotted for evidence the second he made the tweets.

Sports gambling isn’t even that interesting a topic when they do talk about it on the afternoon show, but I get that it is a revenue stream.

To each of your points, I’m trying to remember when I heard politics. I seem to remember some of it in 2017 going through 2020. There was some heated conversations about Kaepernick, Covid and George Floyd I could remember. I don’t remember it being all of the time though. It should be a sports station but I never had a problem with times that called for some serious discussion by non-political pundits.

I felt smarter about sports listening to Bernstein. His interviews, analysis, his introduction to analytics, it all made sense.

Someone on Chicago Fanatics tried making it seem like he refused to apologize to that person and that’s why he’s out of a job. I don’t believe that. I think your point about Audacy makes a lot of more sense.

Talking politics has been a non-stop theme over the years with Bernstein, so you must have missed a lot of it.  He is extreme anti-Catholic and anti-Conservative.  He takes shots at the current POTUS all the time.  I remember in 2016 right after the election, Bernstein said he tucked in his son into bed for the night and cried as he was worried about the future of Jewish people.  He was always a sensationalist tool and used his platform to spout his biased beliefs.  Good riddance.

Shouldn't have worried so much about Israel as it turned out...
