It's too early to assess. His lack of trade experience was evident with the Fedde/Kopech trade debacle. I still think he should have gotten more from the Dylan Cease deal as well. I was very encouraged from the Crochet deal. I think he executed that deal very nicely. He was patient and recieved a heck of a package. I agree with Jimmy. He needs to win a potential Luis Robert deal.

The organization was set back so far when they lost out on getting any sort of value back from the old original core players: Anderson, Moncada and Eloy. I do like the organizational infastructure changes. I hope Getz can utilize those changes and begin developing talent from within. He needs a really strong draft performance in 2025 and 2026. If i had to guess, he will likely have a top 5 to choose from in 2026. I know it goes beyond the first round, as he also needs to hit on 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders as well. This is where I hope the scouting department changes can be demonstrated.

I think it will be fair to evaluate Getz after the 2026 season. At that point, we should know how strong the farm system is getting and will have a true understanding of the direction of this ball club. It sucks we have to wait another 2-3 years, but this organization was set so far back by the previous regime- this needed to be done. (sigh!)

This is on point.  The Luis Robert trade will finish setting the foundation.  Need more hitting prospects with pop.  The pitching prospects are in a good position so far - of course, depth is king right now with pitchers dropping like flies.

D - He has done some good, and in general I have liked most of his hires.  But I also think he hasn't maximized his asset value in trade(s)...albeit the Crochet deal was my favorite of the bunch so maybe he is improving. I will caveat he is probably a full grade below because he was part of the farm system that has developed no one before he took the role. If he was a pure outsider I would not have been as harsh for the current state of the system and lack of general development.

I'm also probably a grade skeptic because the only way the Sox have developed players is via trade acquisition - they really have done a poor job building a sustainable minor league model via the draft.  I know it takes time - but I am NOT yet there that I have seen him do the same here. I also have NOT seen him leverage shorter term deals on some people who can accelerate their ability to land some picks / players at the deadline (maybe sign a closer to a 1YR deal where you know they'll have value at the deadline, etc).  Plus places where they could buy-low and play - haven't seen them do that, despite having a lot of payroll flexibility.

So solid D job.

If you notice they didn't sign a single player to more than a $5M contract. You're not going to get a closer on a one year deal for that kind of money whose rep is good enough to generate strong trade interest.

The market apparently didn't show much interest in Fedde or Cease so while it's easy to be upset about the trades I think the Sox and Getz get treated like the ugly stepchild by other GMs because he was a new GM and they know  JR may press Getz to move the salary more than he cares about a better return .

I've heard others say salary dump and this could be true.

There's so much going on behind the scenes in trades that we just aren't privy to.

As fans many thought Cease was worth a lot more.We all wanted a golden return from Baltimore. So yeah what we got back pales in comparison to expectations and Cease came back and pitched very well and again Sox fans started saying ooh SD will get more for him than the Sox did once the rumors started about SD possibly trading Cease. That hasn't happened, has it ?

Still despite our expectations I still do like seeing Baltimore fail in the playoffs.

Hey maybe Vargas actually improves the Fedde Kopech return and one of those 2 infielders they picked up climb up the Sox top 30 this year and Zavala figured something out and rises from the ashes.

Larry Himes built a team that won 94 games with the lowest payroll in baseball. He was fired after the season ended.

Jerry didn't like him. That's how it works in most companies. I loved the job Himes did, but I get that if I owned the club, I would want my guys running things. As the saying goes, rank has its privileges.

Very good chance they have to deal Cease King Suarez Arraez at the deadline if the Padres are .500ish or below.

Will try to extend King first.

Boras...good luck with that one.

Pretty incredible:

Himes built the White Sox farm system, drafting All-Stars Jack McDowell, Robin Ventura, Frank Thomas, and Alex Fernandez in the first round in consecutive years (1987–1990). By late 1990, all four were integral parts of the White Sox.

Himes also traded one of the Sox franchise's most popular players, Harold Baines, in July 1989. With the White Sox so far out of the pennant race, Baines and second baseman Fred Manrique were sent to the Texas Rangers for second baseman Scott Fletcher, pitcher Wilson Álvarez, and 20-year-old outfielder Sammy Sosa.[6][7]

September 15, 1990 - Owner Jerry Reinsdorf fired G.M. Larry Himes citing ‘personality differences.’ Himes drafted and signed Sox future stars like Frank Thomas, Jack McDowell, Robin Ventura and Alex Fernandez. During the press conference announcing the hiring of Ron Schueler as new G.M., Reinsdorf issued his famous ‘Point A to point B to point C’ comment. Later in a rare radio appearance he was candid on the subject to host Chet Coppock. “The fact is Larry Himes cannot get along with anybody. You can hardly find anybody in the Sox organization that wasn’t happy when Larry Himes left.”

The 1990 draft was also insane. Fernandez, Bob Wickman (2), James Baldwin (4), Ray Durham (5), and Jason Bere (36).

What rank do we give Ricketts as a Cubs' owner lol?

Probably also a C.

Unless it's maximizing profits from the local neighborhood and leveraging it for his own personal net worth expansion.

Tommy boy gets an A for putting more money in the trust fund that not only owns the cubs but that he is a beneficiary of.

The Cubs crying poor and not acting like a big market team is an automatic F.  They are a cash machine and flat out lying to their fan base.

Trading Bellinger for nothing, as well as acquiring Paredes then trading him for one year of Tucker, while doing almost nothing else to help the team plus Tucker looking like a one year rental is borderline malpractice. They're like one quarter going for it and three quarters having no idea what they're doing.
