Yeah you’re cutting an OF when Tauchman comes back anyway so why not just claim him over Jankowski and try to sneak him through later? Who knows, an injury can even lead to playing time and a need.

I’d keep Canario over Taylor for sure. Might be a defensive downgrade, but Canario is way younger and more interesting.

Canario replaces Taylor and Tauchman replaces Jankowski. Rojas will replace Amaya (hopefully) and then go from there.

The problem is we still don't have a natural SS with that arrangement.

You're going to end up playing Baldwin, Sosa or Meidroth there...or Maton, who's now primarily a 2B/OF.

Rojas is a great 3B, a very good 2B and an average big league SS...maybe a touch over average.

Honestly if we dont get him now we probably will have a second chance, maybe 1-2 months from now, to get a waiver claim in. b/c we are the 30th team.

So right now only a trade can beat us to him.

and because of his roster status i would bet some other team, if they trade cash for him, is going to just kind of hide him on the roster and eventually give him up for some reliever to be added or something, and the process just restarts again

he should be with a team like us b/c he would actually play

The problem is with Slater Taylor Robert Jankowski and Tauchman rostered...it's NOT yet clear he even WOULD play.

In theory, they'd have to release one of Venable's favorites from when he was the bench coach in Texas with Bochy.

We can argue that he SHOULD get more playing time over all those guys, other than Robert, but that's neither here nor there.

Considering we have guys like Maton DHing and with Slater/Tauchman in a platoon situation, I don't think getting him at bats would be a problem. Play him in left and DH Benintendi. Taylor is a fifth OFer practically irrelevant

If they REALLY want to dump Benintendi's contract, another team's going to have to see him playing LF capably to make that move for him IMO...and, since he's still under terms for three more seasons, it's not quite as simple as snapping one's fingers and moving him there (see all the arguments for Eloy DHing, for example, that never ultimately "won" out).

62 days of service time and 24 years old catches my attention.  On a team full of flawed players, might as well get someone with any upside.

Youth movements are always more interesting to a lot of people such as myself, given the alternative option of chasing .500 with some meh or shot veterans. This last rebuild that flamed out sort of goosed fan interest for awhile for sure. But that kind of thing is not going to work again unless the Sox begin bringing up their own talent that they scouted and signed. Canario, well I agree. I would have more fun having a beer in the stands watching guys like that more than the Benintendi of the world.

The Sox can want to dump Benintendi’s contract all they want, it’s not happening.  Teams weren’t even willing to trade for Robert.  Playing Benintendi in the outfield would probably lower his value as you are just showcasing his mediocre range and noodle arm.  Besides, the only thing that matters is his contract and that’s why it isn’t happening.  He’s our DH for 3 more years unless the Sox decide to DFA him and pay him.

2025:  $16.5 million

2026:  $16.5 million

2027:  $14.5 million

The problem is self-admittedly, they have none at the higher levels.

I still think a ++ GM could get a haul for robert. Values are set by market factors. Cf is incredibly weak and thin. Robert gives a team a huge edge over those they are competing with.

You should be able to sell his value and ceiling given how weak the position is and talented he is.

Yet another time you are putting words in my mouth — I have said numerous times that he could easily bust, but that I think it’s worth seeing what he can do, even if he fails miserably.  For cripes’ sakes, Venable has Jankowski and Taylor starting in the corners today.  Need I say more?

I think this is true, but he probably needs a good two or three months of plus production before other teams are willing to pay the price we’d desire.
