What is the point of a lefty bat if he can’t hit and has little power?  DH’ing Maton and leading him off reminds me of TLR and his fetish for Leury Garcia.

Dude we got some new coaches. I'm not expecting miracles or anything but Maton hit 3 HRs in ST . He obviously has some power.

Not sure who youre advocating to play where exactly .  You don't want Maton or Jankowski or Slater or Taylor so who do you want leading off and DHing. Give me your ideal lineup against a RH sinkerballer who gets a lot ground alls buy doesn't K many. I'll help you out a little .Emphasize , OBP speed and contact. Do some stealing and hit and runs if he's going to be throwing pitches in the dirt.

I prefer Lee over Thaiss but I can name 5 key reasons why despite Thaiss being LH having the strong side Platoon advantage over the RH Lee.

Lee is younger but still a prospect with power who can also run well.

He needs to play and try to establish some value a lot more than Thaiss does because..

Keel and Quero are coming. If Lee establishes some power,OBP, improves his hit tool , K rate and defensive value he'll be worth way more as a trade piece than Thaiss ever will. Imagine if he can manage to hit .250 with 10 HRs at the TDL and continue to gun down runners. Now catching is overflowing with talent.

Sosa, Vargas and Vaughn all take a bit of a tumble against RHP, historically. Maybe Sosa and Vargas work to become somewhat more neutral over time. Slater actually had reverse splits last year, as did Lee (slightly).

But we are trying to establish Sosa and Vargas as legitimate hitters and they can't do that playing splitting time. They understand this about Vargas. Sosa ended 2024 well, played and tore up VZL over the winter. Hot well in ST and been stinging the ball with high exit velocities along with a HR in the previous 2 games. Maybe just an off day but I need to see him more too.

My priority would be to start Vargas, Sosa, Lee and Baldwin in as many games as possible. None of them should be platooning right now. They can play matchups with Amaya/Taylor/Slater vs. Jankowski/Maton

I just don’t have it in me to care about the lineup right now.  This is the worst opening day offensive roster in franchise history, so even the “optimal” lineup like yesterday’s is pathetic.

Fully agree.  Will be a bit better when Tauchman & Rojas are here.  Jankowski really shouldn’t be on a major league roster.  And Amaya and Maton leave a ton to be desired for even if they were just bench pieces.  Just a lot of bad depth options for Venable unfortunately.

That being said, Sosa should be DHing over Maton regardless of handedness.
