Yep, it’s pretty shocking that a terrible owner whose team is now on its second rebuild since 2016 isn’t the belle of the ball!  Crazy…

The article is unprofessional, un-sourced, lazy, sarcastic and pointless. It's not shocking that would be something you would find of value.

Excuse me but Tray will not stand for BALONEY

That’s cuz Tray is living in an alternate dimension in the multiverse in which Reinsdorf is actually a good owner.  I heard Jerry wanted to make a new Marvel movie about it but he expected the state to fund it so it went nowhere.

Story has some details on the Sox stadium contract situation that some may find interesting:

JR certainly has a sweetheart deal with the current lease.  Even if the team stays at the current ballpark, I don't expect ISFA to just rubber stamp the same lease terms going forward with the way things have gone the last few years with the team's performance and with attendance.  They'd just be incentivizing more mediocrity and fan apathy.

Of course the huge wildcard there is Jerry's age (he'll be 93 when the lease is up) and whether Ishbia is indeed being lined up to be the next team owner.   And at the risk of giving someone another case of the giggles, whether the Ishbia brothers are going make a new ballpark at the 78 a reality with private financing of the stadium.  If that happens, I'm not sure what ISFA's role would be with a new stadium, it would have to be mostly (if not all) privately financed, but there would still be a lot of public investment in infrastructure at the site.

White Sox attendance "only" down 11.7% with a YoY comparison with 2024, first four home games.

You did have arguably better opponents last year, especially the Braves and started out with more of a rivalry series with DET.

Was thinking numbers would be down 15-20% this year, but Will Venable and the possible ownership change/s have injected needed life into the franchise.

That and maybe not starting off 3-22 or whatever it was would definitely help.   The more days they're not in last place.

Which is at least two more days if the Twins were to win the next two and Sox to lose them, they'd both be 2-4, haha.

There certainly isn't a shortage of articles that rank the MLB ballparks.  Very subjective, of course, and we've seen countless rankings.  That being said, here's a new one that ranks Rate Field at #27.  The two minor league ballparks in use this year are ranked #29 and #30.  Only Chase Field in Phoenix ranks lower that the home of the White Sox.

I used to get all outraged when seeing Sox Park dissed and listed near the bottom in some of these rankings, but I really don't see anything they say here that strikes me as unfair.  And yes, they are using the old name of this stadium:  Guaranteed Rate Field.

The Rate is 2 different parks. The lower deck is great. The upper deck is a nightmare.

It's kind of like that at most parks....the cheap seats suck.

A few years ago I went up to the upper deck and just out of curiousity I went  to the highest seat in the  upper deck, Section 558, Row 21, Seat12. I was scared. Its awful up there. I have nothing bad to say about the lower deck and nothing good to say about the upper deck.

Have you gone to the highest seats on the west side of Soldier Field? The only good thing there is you can see Michigan with a good set of binoculars.

It was even worse when the upper deck went up to row 29 and there wasn't much of an overhanging roof!

One of the problems w/ the UD is that the entrance from the concourse is at the very bottom.  Other ballparks have nosebleed seats, but not many have you climb 21 rows to get to your seats.

Exactly, from what I’ve seen it looks like plenty of the new parks have upper decks just as high and steep as the Rate, 2 exceptions are Comerica and PNC in PIttsburgh which IMO is the best of them all.
Anyone remember how steep the second balcony was at old Chicago Stadium, no one ever complained as you were right on top of the action, best place ever to watch a hockey game and where the die hard fans sat.

Great point about the climb, we sat in row 29 the night the Sox clinched the division against Seattle in 1993, we never left our seats until the game was over.

A forgotten part of White Sox history is how JR rejected the original design of the present stadium. He wanted and got the 2nd level of suites which help make the upper deck what it is. All he had to do is keep the original design and add more rows on the lower level like PNC in Pittsburgh. They're given away those upper deck seats and nobody wants to sit up there. I've always thought that JRs biggest mistake of his ownership was how this present stadium turned out.

One of the problems was this stadium was it was built for the corporate fan. Baseball had been working class sport where a fan bought a beer and a hot dog not a steak and a bottle of red wine. The stadium, at least in the lower deck, has improved over the years. But if the powers that be actually build a new stadium, I hope the average fan will get some consideration.

Or the stadium club/restaurant down the RF line...they even deconstructed that popular drinking area in RF if I remember correctly.

Bullpen Sports Bar and Grill...Bertucci Boys?

Have all those suites ever even been totally filled?  I want to say that at least about 10 years ago, there were some of those suites that were still empty.  Also, I have read rumors that JR rejected an option to build a Camden Yards-style ballpark.  But I have no idea if that's true or not.

I agree with others that the lower deck, especially after the renovations that were made 20 years ago, is pretty nice.   But it's still a "meh" park overall.  We love it because we love the White Sox and it's our team's home.  But, outside of our fanbase,  it's a rather forgettable stadium in a rather forgettable neighborhood.
