I don’t see this team winning more than 30 games this season.  They are an embarrassment.

If they wind up with only around 30 wins then the Commissioner should step in and force JR to sell much the same way that Charlie Finley was not allowed to complete a trade where he traded away most of the Oakland A’s back in 1976 citing as it wasn’t in the best interest of Baseball. It’s obvious the Sox are again fielding a AAA team with JR refusing to spend money and put together a competitive club which upsets the competitive balance in the game, if this isn’t a detriment and not in the best interest to the game, I don’t know what is.

The Sox are designed to lose over 100 games.  So at least make it more entertaining like the Washington Generals did or maybe like Bill Veeck often tried to do.  Replacing winning with laughter. Put a midget at DH and use position players to pitch after the 5th inning.  Get another Andy the clown to entertain the fans.  It is a joke now but at least make it a fun joke.

30 or so wins is not enough for the Commish to take those steps. Charley Finley went a step further than just losing.  He sold some of his best players (Joe Rudi was one) to Boston for cash. That did it. The Commish at least reversed those trades.

There is another parallel in the NBA. Years ago, Cleveland was owned by Ted Sepian, who, for some reason was beholden to Jerry Buss, and Sepian gave away Number 1 Draft picks for some slug named Dan Ford. One of those turned into either James Worthy or Magic Johnson.  Can't remember. The Commish stepped in and got rid of Sepian, but the trades stood.

Magic Johnson went to the Lakers after they won the coin flip with the Bulls for the #1 draft pick in 1980.

I know I’ve made this comment for a few years, but after being around probably 20 pct of males with White Sox hats on at travel tournaments around Chicago two years ago, I didn’t see a single one this past weekend.

Next to nothing?  It’s not that they tried to improve, they were made significantly worse.  The scary thing about all of this is there are really no assets to trade to acquire more talent.  Getz completely shitting the bed on the Cease and Fedde trades is so easily excused by so many.

huh? I agree he s%*# the bed but certain posters around here complaining about these two trades ALL THE TIME.

It was Worthy in ‘82.

Crazy thing if they get Worthy in 82, they almost certainly don't get MJ after that.

You're talking Bulls; we were talking Lakers/Cleveland tainted trade, which led to Cleveland owner getting shitcanned by the Commish, which won't happen with Jerry, which is what another poster recommended.

I was at Disneyland last week and saw Sox hats more than any other team except LAD, NYY, and SDP. It was shocking. I didn’t see a single cubs hat (saw a couple shirts) and I think I saw maybe two (lol) angels hats.

Magic was '79.  The Bulls lost the coin flip to the Lakers for the #1 pick that year.  Bird would've been 2nd, but the NBA had "draft and follow" rules back then and drafted Bird in '78 and signed him the night before the '79 draft.  Just another layer to how lucky JR was to have Jordan land in his lap.

I don’t doubt it, as I see them all the time on TV at NBA games in other cities.

The pick was originally traded to the Mavs.  Dallas traded it to the Lakers.
