Now this makes that deal look better. An outfield with Kotsay and Kielty is something I like and Lilly was definately expendable.

Despite that they did give up Lillly who I think is turning into a pretty solid pitcher. Kielty struggled as a full time player on the Jays while Lilly was turning into a pretty damn good pitcher down the stretch for the A's.

This could really bite Billy in the ass. Maybe he is just dismantling the team, before he jumps to some team in the AL

One question, whats more important...a lefty that pitched pretty damn good last season or an outfielder that hit .250 or so with ocassional pop.

They must want Kielty for his OBP, but you could find an outfielder like this via FA for pretty cheap without giving up a pretty solid lefty. The only real question with Lilly is whether he can throw a ton of innings at his stature. I'm not calling him an ace, but he's a damn good 4.

Lilly is expendable when you have Mulder, Hudson, Zito, Harden, and I'm sure they're planning on bringing up Blanton this year. They need some hitting so this isn't a bad trade.

But why not get someone like Reggie Sanders or Rondell White. They aren't far too different then Kielty. Why not use Lilly to land you a catcher. I'd bet you could find someone solid by tossing out a lefty like Lilly.

I do think the important part of that deal was Billy getting cash. He may of freed up about a mill today, which for him, probably means a lot.

I think they did this deal cos they don't think they can resign Jose Guillen for next year so they need sum1 to replace him. So essentially now they've traded Ted Lilly, Terrence Long and Ramon Hernandez for Bobby Kielty and Mark Kotsay, 2 outfielders. That's quite a lot to giv up in my opinion without gettin any prospects back.

Good deal for both teams. Jays pitching sucked big time last year, but their offense was pretty damn good, A's pitching, especially starting pitching, was pretty damn good last year but they needed some offense down the stretch.

Now as far as catcher is concerned.....that's a whole different story. They are damn near f***ed there. I have no idea what they plan to do about that.

I really can see them looking at a FA to play catcher. I think they would love Javy. He would add a bat to their lineup, and be able to play some catcher. IRod won't end up going there. I think they will end up with a middle trier catcher during the winter. Who knows, maybe Beano has a deal in the works for a catcher? I would have kept Ramon Hernandez though, but maybe that's just me and what seems everyone else on this site.

What were Jeremy Brown's numbers from last year? Beane might just pull him up if he doesn't have another solution. However knowing Billy he's already thought it all out.
