Flash is history

No big surprises here.  KW has said all along that he isn't going to chase players that don't want to be here.

So that means we will have a team of minor league players?! :o

Seriously, it seems like there are few players that do want to be here this offseason.

It was pretty much a given that Gordon would be gone ... as soon as he started referring to himself in the 3rd person late in the season:

"Flash has proven he can close games, and Flash wants to stay in a closer's role."

He wants a two year deal. I wouldn't give it to him either.

Interesting note in the article about Mags......

"The Sox' GM did not deny that trading Ordonez is a possibility, although he made it clear that the team's right fielder is not actively being shopped and he expects the four-time All-Star to be on the roster in 2004."

Take it for what it's worth.

Reinsdork wouldn't know 'tight on cash' if it bit him in the ass.

This upsets Flash Tizzle. Besides Marte, Flash was a very consistent pitcher. He came into many games having to stop the flood gates or hold a lead....and nearly everytime came through.

I realize he is prone to injuries and to risk his health with a limited payroll doesnt make sense. If KW makes a smart move to acquire an equally talented (but less expensive) reliever then I will be happy. But until this move is made I will miss Gordon in our bullpen.

does this likely mean KW wont offer Flash Arbitration??? and will he likely offer Colon Arbitration??....if we dont get any extra draft picks i will be extremely pissed

Will he offer it to them or not?

By the way, i think the phillies will sign him as a RH Set up man :usa

You'd have to be a fool not to offer Gordon arbitration. At the very worse he comes back and if he accepts the Sox aren't stuck giving him much of a raise. Most likely he'll go elsewhere and the Sox will get a pick. And losing a draft pick won't bother the Devil Rays because they are in a spot where htey don't have to give up a draft pick.

I think Maggs stays here and the Sox move Konerko/Koch/Lee instead. I'd really like it if they could move Konerko and Koch and keep the rest, but its probably not going to happen at least not if the SOx want some flexibility to sign some relievers as well as a few guys that could come off the bench.

I think Maggs will sign a long term deal sooner or later at a lower base salary.

KW would have to be a complete idiot to say anything different until a deal is final. I'm not hopeful, there is too much money tied up in too few people.

Both Colon and Flash will be offered arbitration.

And so far, neither has an offer by another team. This is posturing by a player looking for a multi-year contract.

All these people taking jabs and JR again, as if he has done or hasn't done a thing yet this off season, is typical BS. So far, he's made a nice offer to Colon. That's it. No one's been traded or cut...no player has signed with another team. We've all heard quite a few teams are cutting payroll, some drastically. It looks like the Sox payroll will remain about the same, plus or minus a few mill. At a time when other teams are cutting payroll, how is this such a terrible crime by JR? No one even knows what the team's going to look like, but everyone's all gloom and doom and swearing at Sox management.

At least wait until you see something worth getting all worked up about, for crying out loud.

And by the way...Flash wants $5 mill per for multiple years at a time when so far, player salaries are soft. And he has a health history worse than mine [mot a good thing]. How is that something that makes JR a bad guy? If he signed Flash to a multi-year deal at $5 mill per right now, that would make him a stupid owner. He's not.

Do you guys have to keep writing the same tired old "JR is cheap" posts every day?

Recent poster: "It's raining like hell outside today!"

Recent reply: "Jr is cheap as hell!!! We'll never win until he sells!!!"

Forkit!

The Sox' GM did not deny that trading Ordonez is a possibility, although he made it clear that the team's right fielder is not actively being shopped and he expects the four-time All-Star to be on the roster in 2004.

''If I had to make a prediction right now, very few of the upper-echelon players will be traded,'' he said. ''That's just my prediction after seeing these things, year after year, take on a life of their own.

''But with us, everybody knows our circumstances here. And I promise you this: If there is an impact player out there, we're trying to acquire him however that can happen.''

ONe question: I don't understand the line about the Rays not being in a spot where they have to give up a draft pick.

Please explain.

Pick from the Rays would be valuable -- a top 10 or higher.

I'll take this one

If a team has a top 15 pick, you get 2 sandwich picks. Like, for instance, if we offer Flash arbitration and he qualifies as an A type free agent, and the DRays sign him, we get two sandwich picks, because teams with a top 15 pick can't lose it. A team with a pick from 16-30 CAN lose their first round pick, and that was one of the reasons so many teams that were hoping to contend, and at the very least be mediocre, were afraid of signing Chuck Finley last year. That and the fact that he's like 50 and he had legal troubles(and if I wanted to be really mean, I could say that he got his ass beat by his wife, but I won't hold that against him. He did the right thing by not hitting her)

TQ, you're lurking, jump in.

Did you get an invoice for 2004 yet? I didn't.

I'm going down there on Sat. morning to get a seat, the damn things should be just like new, no one ever sat in them anyways!

On Gordon, I'm not sure he's arbitration eligible, but could be wrong. He's being heavily recruited by Pinella and he lives in the Tampa area. Buh bye.
