winninguglyin83
Jerry Manuel is one of four finalists for the Cincinnati managing job. he'll be interviewed tomorrow. Here is the list: Reds interim manager Dave Miley, former Chicago White Sox manager Jerry Manuel, Tampa Bay bench coach John McLaren and Pittsburgh player development director Brian Graham. Word I get is that Miley is the front-runner because A) he did a solid job there the last two months of the season; B) he knows most of the players from the minor leagues and C) he'd be less expensive than Joltin' Jerry. But we all know JM interviews well. CorpseBall -- Not dead yet!
Queen Prawn
God really doesn't like the Reds, does He (or depending on your beliefs, if you believe in God, She)?
RibbieRubarb
I was trying to post this story this morning...damn computer. winninguglyin83
This would re-unite Gandhi with his favorite second-baseman and savvy baserunner -- the unstoppable Mr. D'Angelo Jimenez. Maybe he WON'T take the job.
T R U
How much you wanna bet he makes the reds good and everyone says "Man why did the Sox fire him."
winninguglyin83
if you look at the Reds' pitching staff, they need to make a ton of deals to even get to mediocre

mreye
yep I agree, cw. I know you agree with me about his firing. I'm tired of all the JM bashing. The guy brought us a division title. He always had a winning ball club that was competitive year after year. Get off his ass already. HIs "style" worked in 2000 and no one had a problem with it. I wish him the best of luck. He's a better man than a lot of people can ever dream of being.

But by then it will be too late to bring JM back, assuming that Reinsdorf/KW would ever admit to making an error.

I love it! I also like "when the Ozzie era is over..." I have already begun an Ozzie Death Watch on sox&roll. I just cannot warm up to this hiring. What were they thinking. It may have been time for JM to go, sadly and unfairly, if for no reason that all the restlessness- but why couldn;t we have gottern a real manager? And if we were going to by the debut of someone, I would have prefered Eddie Murray. Cal Ripken said he learned from Murray than anyone. Think about that. What do we get? we get never take ball 4 when you can swing and miss, never have patience, and I don't owe the fans anything. Not since we hired Bob Lemon and I wondered why we got a very old retread long past his best days (and he never did stay awake in the dugout) have I been so unhappy - or unhappy at all - with a new manager. winninguglyin83
Jerry Manuel won one title in six seasons in the WORST division in baseball. He should have won at least two, maybe three. He also failed to win a playoff game, getting his managerial arse kicked from here to Seattle by Lou Piniella in 2000. He sat there like a stuffed animal in April and May as the Sox season slipped away. He refused to believe that Billy Koch didn't have it, sending him out there game after game after game. He listened to Frank say he didn't care about his batting average and was swinging for the fences in direct contradiction to what JM said he wanted -- and DID NOTHING. Jerry Manuel might go somewhere else and win. But the clock ran out on his regime in Chicago long, long ago. CASE CLOSED!!!!!
witesoxfan
How much you wanna bet he makes the reds good and everyone says "Man why did the Sox fire him." I'll make a friendly bet and say that I won't say that. He was a s*** manager here and had all the talent in the world and still couldn't win the division. Hell, we went 11-8 against what would have been the worst team in major league history had we ACTUALLY SCORED A RUN agaisnt them in the TWO games we lost 1-0. And then in the final Minnesota series of the year, he was too damn IGNORANT to see that EVERY hitter was trying to hit a home run in EVERY at bat. You wanna know why we got our asses kicked this year? Jerry Manuel is the reaosn. I can think of a few good decisions he made. He used Gordon, Wunsch, and Marte well, or at the very least, they pitched well for him. Problem is, there are probably three times more bad decisions that came up in one month. If I wanted to give 10-15 minutes of my time, I could come up with a few. I personally do not want to.

But one of the Cincinnati columnist has endorsed interim manager Dave Miley the link: http://www.cincypost.com/2003/11/20/wheeler11-20-2003.html
