Soxy
Just a link to the ever fun ESPN Page 2 "Daily Quickie," where they use briefly mentin Ozzie as their pick for next year's AL Manager of the Year. Just a brief note of hope amid all the rather bleak FA and trade talks. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/quickie

cwsox
It DOES say "preposterously premature" I'd like to smoke whatever is making anyone think Ozzie will be AL manager of the year right now. I could use a flight from reality right about now...

I could use a flight from reality right about now... Hey now, let them play. We all thought we had the division won last year in February, and the White Sox proved to us that you have to play the games. I want to see how they play under Ozzie. Who knows...maybe it will be a good move. Then again, it may be a dumbass move and he may be as bad as Bevington.

Spiff
Ah some people will say anything bad about Ozzie (even though he hasn't done anything as manager yet) because he is not Jerry Manuel and they just can't let go.

Spiff
wrong. some of us remember Ozzie's entire carrer and see nothing remotely managerial about it. there are perspectives other than the ones you can frame. Which perspectives are those? The ones that say he sucks as a manager before he's even done anything? Fine, take that perspective, but Manuel did s*** as a manager the last THREE years. Fine, take that perspective, but Manuel did s*** as a manager the last THREE years. a future journalist should know there are more perspectives than A or B. It is not like Ozzie or if you don't it means one was unwilling to let go of JM. I was ready for JM to go at the end. I am not thrilled at all with Ozzie's hire because it was a cheap choice of someone who I see has no potential at all. It is not a matter of being unable to say goodby to JM. That is an example of another perspective. Had we hired Eddie Murray, for example, I'd be very optimistic. There are a lot more perspectives on anything that black or white. Then how come because I don't think OSU-Michigan is the greatest rivalry ever, it's because "Spiff is going to knock it because it involves Michigan". You weren't really concerned about other perspectives then, were you? And why the f*** would you bring up something like what my future occupation may or may not be? I don't even f***ing know what it's going to be, so how can you say what it is?
cwsox
if I have said anything to offend you, I apologise. That was not the intent. If any attempts at light-hearted humor with someone whom I think well of did not convey itself, I am embarrassed and apologetic. Journalism was on my mind today as I spent a lot of the day with four area editors. Again, I am sorry that you have understood anything I said as something other than the light banter that I meant. (Which is not to say that I don't think you were wrong in your comments on a 100 yar old rivaly or assuming what my perspective on Ozzie is. But it didn't get expressed well and I feel badly for that.)
IlliniBob72
I am not thrilled at all with Ozzie's hire because it was a cheap choice of someone who I see has no potential at all. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, of course, but what is this based on??? No potential at all? Before managing his very first game? s***, I'd have to say he has nothing but potential at this stage in his managerial career. He got some glowing reviews from managers he coached for and unless I've missed a lot, I haven't heard a negative word from any players he coached. Those people would probably have a bit more insight into his managing future than anyone here has. I can understand thinking the Sox may have been able to get better, but saying he can never be a good manager is a bit unfair.
Pastime
Let's see what Ozzie has to work with before we pass judgment. In other words, let's see what Kenny The Magician can pull out of his hat (or out of his ass), and let's see what Ozzie has to work with in terms of a roster before we condemn #13. Unless he's given a halfway-decent roster, not even Connie Mack could win with a s***ty ballclub. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken s*** - as the saying goes. YASNY
We really should wait and see exactly what Ozzie can or cannot actually do before we start slamming him. If you are disappointed with his hiring, fine. But to say he has absolutely no potential, at this point, is a bit harsh.
Pastime
Exactly. If he has a team that has enough talent to compete, then he will either get them to truly compete and play their asses off, or he will just end up with a mediocre record. What pisses me off is that I would love for Ozzie to have managed the roster from last July, August, and September. I guarantee you they would have not only made the playoffs, but made some real noise. However, we had "The Corpse and Cadaver" managing the team. Good riddance, Jerry. You truly are the definition of "moron." Enjoy your 14 hour nap, idiot.
