spataro51
I just read what peter gammons article said and he expects the sox to be one of the surprise teams in 03 gammons: "The White Sox: It will all come down to starting pitching, and while GM Ken Williams has been strapped by payroll issues -- he nearly had Russ Ortiz in a trade, then barely lost out on signing Omar Daal -- the makings behind Mark Buehrle are there, as evidenced by the fact that their starters' ERA after the All-Star break fell to 4.25 from 4.76. "What I liked was that Jon Garland and Dan Wright got better in the second half and they pitched well against contending teams on the road," says Williams. They will look at Jon Rauch, Rocky Biddle and rookie Josh Stewart (11-7 at Double-A) as Williams keeps trying to find experience. The bullpen (Billy Koch, Antonio Osuna, Kelly Wunsch, Damaso Marte, Gary Glover) is deep and versatile. They have the energetic leadersip of Jose Valentin, who is a special person and they have established producers like Magglio Ordonez and Paul Konerko. They also expect Frank Thomas to come back strong and they have young players like Joe Crede, Willie Harris, Miguel Olivo, Josh Paul and Aaron Rowand they hope will develop" Also here is the link gammons
Chisoxfn
For once I hope that Peter Gammons is right. I do think the Sox are going to have a good team this year.

IF they make the playoffs it will be another 3-and-out with the team, as is, right now.
witesoxfan
I'm not so sure about 3-and-out....we'd get a possible win with Buehrle, and if Wright pitched out of his mind(which he can do) and Garland pitched decently, we'd have a shot in a 5-gamer. It was way different in 2000....we were not a very healthy team. If that team was healthy, it would have won it all. Regardless, I wish we could get Colon....that would be damn nice. mac9001
Gammons saying good stuff about the Sox's is a very bad thing. This is the same guy who picks the Red Sox's to win the WS every year <_>

If that was the case, he'd be totally discredited as a baseball analyst.
Soxplosion
Well, I kinda think that Crede should be on the best rookies list before Olivo. I dont think Olivo or Borchard will have much of an impact this year but we all know Crede will. Hey, atleast he included Crede on the breakout seasons list, which I think is pretty cool... mac9001
Crede isn't a rookie, so he can't be on the best rookies list.
cwsox
I have a good feeling for the Sox in 2003 but it creeps me out that Grammons does. Howver, if the Sox got talked up in some of the preseaon stuff, it might help the team mentally to start believing in themselves.
Chisoxfn
Are you sure Crede isn't classified as a rookie?
soxfan420
Are you sure Crede isn't classified as a rookie? crede had 200 at bats and played in 52 games he is not longer considered a rookie
