YASNY
The White Sox have purchased the contract of third baseman Troy Cameron from the Joliet JackHammers. Cameron is expected to begin the 2004 season at either Class A Winston-Salem or Double-A Birmingham. He batted .250 with four home runs and 22 RBI in 152 at-bats for the JackHammers last season. Chisoxfn
I thought it was serious and I was pissed as hell. I am glad we are at least got a different Cameron. Mike Cameron would be the best centerfielder in the American League if he was playing half his games at the Cell. Mark my words on that, his road OPS last year was around .876, which last I checked wasn't too far from Magglio or Carlos Lee. Better yet Cameron had a .333 OBP last year and that would defiantely go up playing away from Safeco and I think he may be just as good as Torri Hunter with the glove and he ain't any worse. Mike Cameron would be one of the best acquisitions the Sox could make, especially if they deal Lee or Maggs. I'd rather give Cameron 4-5 mill (Which is all he'll get) then Lee 7 mill. SuperSteve
...I'd rather give Cameron 4-5 mill (Which is all he'll get) then Lee 7 mill. I agree with this. If we do trade Mags or CLee, we then have two holes in the outfield.
cwsox
Getting back players we have gotten rid of is not my way of building a team. Its like you can't get a date on Saturday night so you go through your phone book and calll former girl friends. Yesterday's gone. The past is just a goodbye. Turn the page. Cameron really dislikes the Sox, the only place he hits is USCF, and his overall stats aren;t so awesome. We can do better. We already have better. I'd rather pay CLee. There is something to be said for taking care of your own and keeping them. So many people complain that the players show no loyalty to the teams. It goes both ways. (and KW even tried screwing Frank over too) We have screwed over multitudes during the same time period. Knowing all of this I don't blame any ML player who doesn't want to come here. Guest JimH
Agree on not wanting Cameron. He strikes out a ton, and that's what you guys b**** about all the time. Plus, he wasn't happy about how he was treated in Chicago by management, so I highly doubt he'll come here. Jeremy Reed looks to be the heir apparant in CF, and then move over to RF when either Ordonez leaves or Brian Anderson is ready. I can definitely envision Anderson moving through the system quickly, although I'm not smoking anything illegal and therefore am not counting on that happening. I would be very surprised to see the Sox acquire anything for the OF with the exception of a good, solid reserve player, a guy who can come off the bench and play all 3 OF spots (NOT like Armando Rios). If Reed shows in ST he's ready, and he beats out Rowand, I'd have no qualms starting the season with him. He's young but his results show he's got real talent. I will be very surprised if they trade Ordonez. Being one year away from free agency, I don't know what they can get for him ... except maybe from the Dodgers and then it'd be a salary swap, or a trade where some team thinks they're one bat away from a championship and are willing to give up prospects for Ordonez ... and I can't think of any team in that situation who needs a RF. It's just that your quote made everything seem hunky-doory in the White Sox Organization with ex-players. And being Fisk was my All-Time Favorite Sox player..... winninguglyin83
I took the bait. couldn't believe he would come back, but then I thought maybe Kenny Williams was rolling the dice because it was Manuel who got down on Cameron for all the whiffs. Sox should have a helluva team at AA next season. maybe they can win the Southern League playoffs. THAT is in the budget
cwsox
I know. It's just that your quote made everything seem hunky-doory in the White Sox Organization with ex-players. And being Fisk was my All-Time Favorite Sox player..... I didn't mean to imply that at all. Writing is a skill that I did not master on that post. Fisk was my all time personal favorite too. Get me going on how the Sox have f***ed up through the years and that episode always comes up. In fact, if you want a little hilarity at SoxFest, buy me 3 screwdrivers in the space of 30 minutes and I do a wonderful exposition on "dumbest f***ing moves the Sox ever did." whitesox61382
"Getting back players we have gotten rid of is not my way of building a team. I am sorry, but this is a poor analogy that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand. Cameron can't help the fact that he was traded. Do you honestly believe that adding a player that will help this organization is a bad idea just because they traded him earlier in his career? If so than that is one of the stupidest things that I have heard. "and his overall stats aren;t so awesome. We can do better. We already have better." Who is better? Maybe Maggs, buts thats it. I would even argue that Cameron at 6-7M is worth more then Maggs at 14M when you take all things into consideration. Maggs is better offensively, but Cameron is still very respectible, and would probably be a low-mid .800 OPS guy away from Safeco(based on his away splits). Than you factor in the SIGNIFICANT defensive improvement at a much more important position. Add in the drastic increase in speed, and it is clear to see that Cameron at 6-7M is a much better investment then Maggs at 14M. "I'd rather pay CLee." If you think CLee is a better player than Cameron, than you have no clue how to judge talent.

CubKilla
And here I thought the Sox actually DID something. You should know better. But, when we do something, we usually get fleeced so it all evens out with the Cameron's and the Barry's/Berry's
witesoxfan
You should know better. But, when we do something, we usually get fleeced so it all evens out with the Cameron's and the Barry's/Berry's I wish I could prove you wrong, but what you say is more rule then exception. In fact, there is, off the top of my mind right now, ONE exception to that rule. Getting Colon last year was huge and we did not get fleeced, and regardless of who put together the deal, it was the White Sox who benefitted the most from it. We still didn't make the playoffs, so in the end, the move really did not matter.
cwsox
If you think CLee is a better player than Cameron, than you have no clue how to judge talent. Whatever happened to be polite and decent to others and saying, if you think CLee is a better player, I would disagree." Instead, rudeness. I don't have a clue? No, I disagree with you. I respect your opinion, but not so sure about you anymore. I have a lot of clues on talent. And I did not say who I thought was better, I said who I would rather have. And I can also figure out other things about people.
