WHITE SOX AGREE TO TERMS ON ONE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH CATCHER SANDY ALOMAR, JR.

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free-agent catcher Sandy Alomar, Jr. The deal was announced this afternoon by Ken Williams, White Sox general manager.

Alomar, 36, split the 2002 season between the White Sox and Colorado. He batted .287 (48-167) with seven home runs and 25 RBI in 51 games with the White Sox before being traded to Colorado on July 29 in exchange for pitcher Enemencio Pacheco and cash considerations. In 38 games with the Rockies, Alomar hit .267 (31-116) with no home runs and 12 RBI. He combined to throw out 13 of 49 (26.5 percent) attempted basestealers at the two stops.

“Sandy is the perfect guy to come in and mentor our young catchers, Miguel Olivo and Josh Paul,” said Williams. “We know what type of player he is and what his presence means to a clubhouse, and he knows our pitching staff and the American League.”

“In addition, it was Jerry Manuel’s desire to bring Sandy back because he has been instrumental in the development of our pitching staff. We’re looking for him to continue to provide that veteran leadership.”

A career .275 (1,081-3,932) hitter with 104 home runs and 517 RBI over 15 seasons, he currently ranks sixth among active players with 1,113 games caught. In two seasons with the Sox, Alomar batted .264 (102-387) with 11 home runs and 46 RBI.

Huh? Josh Paul? Jerry Manuel? Who the hell wrote this?

The f***ers didn't even bother to change the press release from a year ago :bang .

Unless we stole Josh Paul from the sCrUBBIES when no one was looking to steal some of that D Lee thunder

Wow, that is pretty sad.

Not the fact that Sandy's coming back, but the fact that they didn't even bother to write a new article.

Sad and pathetic.  Hell, I had nothing to do this morning - I would have wrote it in that time and it would have been much better than that.  I see laziness has permiated all through the ranks...

WHITE SOX AGREE TO RENAME THEIR MEDIA-RELATIONS DEPT TO BETTER SUIT THE BASEBALL PRODUCT

CHICAGO-The Chicago White Sox have aptly renamed their Media-Relations Dept. in an attempt to become more identifiable to the actual White Sox' on-field product. From this moment forward, the Chicago White Sox Media-Relations Dept. will be referred to "Corpse-Relations" considering the typist must have died since White Sox Season Ticket Holders didn't receive an updated official release regarding the re-signing of Sandy Alomar Jr. Change your letterhead accordingly.

I posted this without even reading it - copied right from this afternoon's email - damn, it is, it really is, last year's press release!

That is the PR department version of Bevington calling for a relief pitcher with no one warming up!

What goofs!

This email just came - read the first words:

Sorry about that. The first press release that I sent was from last year. This is the correct one.

Let's all take it easy. We knew that Sandy Alomar Jr would be back. Hopefully his expert tutelage will help Miguel Olivo hit the curve ball and lay off the outside pitches. The Sox are proud of all the money they have to spend to put together a winner and KW's bold moves continue this off season.

Of course we knew Sandy would be back, future Sox coach that he is, and resident of isn't it Humboldt Park? That is why I didn't actually read the press release I got but posted just what I was sent - which was last year's release! I think that is funny!

I am glad we have Sandy - he seems to be a great mentor and teacher.

When I read the initial post I thought you were having us on, given the deja vu subtitle of the thread. Then when there was no clever tag line at the end I thought you were just sitting back smiling as people responded to the old release. I never wouel havve believed they would actually send that out, nor can I even fathom the work flow they have that would even make that possible. A well-oiled PR juggernaut they're not...

Cwsox, it's your season ticket rep that's apparantly not on the ball.

That's who should be blamed, it was a careless mistake.

I got the correct press release from my rep.

The PR dept. does a lot of dumb things, but this appears to be the fault of one season ticket rep and not the whole PR staff.
