Guest wsc425
14361.1 All signs point to Colon or Vasquez wearing a WS uniform this spring. Why? 1] Need. Sox need a SP with a low BB/9, High IP/start, high K, low WHIP. Both go deep into the game, and will lighten the load on the bullpen. Rauch will be good, but doesn't go deep. His '02 stats are great despite his ERA [.226 BAA, 7.98 K/9, 1.22 WHIP]. Wright and Garland will get better, but how much? The bullpen needs another innings eater with good control [Only Ismael Valdes fits that mold for FA]. 2] Sox have the available players for Montreal. Pick 1 of 2 LSP-Josh Stewart or Corwin Malone; 2 of 4 RP-Biddle, Glover, Ginter, or Porzio; and 1of 2 pos. players: Tim Hummel, Willie Harris or Josh Paul. Baseball America had Malone, Hummel and Ginter as the #3, 6 and 12 prospects in '02. Both Malone and Stewart may be in the same mold as Buerhle, but you never know with prospects. Malone had a terrible year with control 82 bb/ 82 k. Stewart had a great year that seemed to comeout of the blue. Willie Harris probably will stay [ Sox need his speed, lefty bat] so that leaves Hummel odd man out even though he has a great upside. Aaron Miles will be in AAA at 2b. Montreal could then trade Vidro to save more cash. 3] Montreal execs. are either idiots or bargaining with a back up plan. The Sox seem to be that back up plan They paid a lot to get Colon from Cleveland and want a decent return from him. Why else would they turn down good offers from the Yanks, and hold out for Fossum from the Red Sox if they didn't have a better offer already on the table? Montreal needs a team that can take on payroll. Few are out there. And teams with the players they need. The Sox only have 39 million committed to '03 so far. Montreal has to cut payroll. So if they were desperate, they'd sell quick and not with spring training right around the corner. 4] A trade wouldn't make or break the makeup of the team. The sox youth position players make the organization and farm system look good. Olivo, Jimenez, Crede, Harris, Borchard in mid '03. Not to mention the pitchers-Almonte, Munoz, Rauch who'll make the team. The young players mentioned above are good. But the Sox have even better players in the system. For instance, SLP-Heath Philips AA in '03. 5] Kenny Williams has tried two other sensible options for SP and haven't worked out. Old proven starter with Wells and a diamond in the rough with Ritchie. A young proven starter is the third option. [ps. Ritchie may have been hurt last year and tried to pitch through it. He started off strong and then hit bottom in July. He may have a future with us if he takes a big pay cut.] 6] Colon is from the Dominican Republic. So too are new 1b coach Rafael Santana, Olivo, Marte, Arnaldo Munoz, Almonte [though he grew up in NY], and Felix Diaz. Colon may feel comfortable enough to stay on after this year so he wouldn't be only for one year. Vasquez would be here for at least two years so the Sox should get their return on him. 7] Throw in Peter Bergeron from the Expos and you can add a third RP from the list of four. Wishful thinking? Maybe. But it makes a lot sense for both sides. The players we have now need a chance to play somewhere. They'd get that in Montreal. [Forwarded post from whitesox.com, author: Beck72] This makes perfect sense. I believe the White Sox should trade Vasquez, Tatis, Colon, for Rauch, Lee, Malone, and a throw in. Chisoxfn
Thats for sure, no way would they add 20 million on. They are really hard pressed to add on 8. The Sox can't possibly do this deal if we get Tatis, of course if we take on Tatis, then I'd say its basically Brian West and a mid level prospect for Colon, cause the Expos would just be super happy they dumped all that payroll. Maybe JR is talking to Bud about ways he can help the Expos out and get a little extra cash from the new collective bargaining agreement. YASNY
Can someone tell me why would we want Tatis? .... He's overpaid and a clubhouse cancer. We just got rid of one malignancy in Clayton, why take on another?

YASNY
Well, if we have to take him, maybe we can trade him to the Cubs. They could have him cheap as far as I'm concerned.
