SuperSteve
True the first couple moves KW did kind of stunk; however, you have to give him a little credit. KW does a hell of a job with the resources and money he's getting (which is about nothing, though you all knew that). I mean look at last year; he brought in Colon for Leifer and Biddle. Not too shabby if you ask me. The Everett and Alomar deals really worked too. Just the level we underachieved at during the first half killed us. I don't think we can put much blame on KW for that. No, Osuna was part of the deal too. We traded for Orlando Hernandez, then dealt him to the Expos for Colon along with Lieffer and Biddle. BrandoFan
I want the Sox to sign Pettite. Yes, lets pay 10-12 Mill a year to what basically amounts to a 4.00-4.25 ERA pitcher in our ballpark when you adjust for the fact that he will be less effective without the Yankee offense backing him up and with mediocre Sox defense behind him. The man can pitch in the post-season, a very underrated distinction, BUT Sox probably won't get to postseason in the first place if we are going to continue to throw money around (5 Mill for Valentin, 12+ for Fatolo, 10+ for Pettite, 8+ for Ponson, etc.......all on the SUB-60 Mill budget)
BrandoFan
It's been a long time. Congrats to the M's for making 2003 a bearable year for SOX fans. I mean that in more ways than one. Oh, it was absolutely GLORIOUS to witness the Cubbie historic meldown. Better than if they hadn't made the playoffs in the first plade. Well, almost. People don't realize how close Marlins were to a SWEEP, but if A-Gon fails to make one of the two defensive gems on Sosa in Game 1, it's over. Delgado Konerko-esque defensive futility, bad knees....but at under 15 Mill (not gonna happen), his ability to hit in clutch and drive in runs would be welcome. FlaSoxxJim
While the United States won't have a baseball team in the 2004 Olympics, some Americans will be playing for different countries. Among those is Chicago's Erik Pappas, a former Cubs and Cardinals catcher who will be on the Greek team put together by Orioles owner Peter Angelos. I played with Erik Pappas in little league. He hasn't played in the majors in close to 10 years so I don't know what that means for the Greek Olympic team, but without a US team to shear for, I guess I'm going Greek. Opah! Pastime
Paul Konerko will be playing for his home country ..... SLOW-vakia. Ba-dum-bump!
YASNY
Proven good or proven not so good? I don't think we can label PK as in a slump anymore. He's starting to look like flash in the pan, one hit wonder, etc. One hit wonder? Look at his stats for 99-02, then look at '03. '03 seems to be the exception to the rule. His OPS was never lower than .844 over those 4 years, yet came in at .704 this past year. That sounds to me like the definition of an "off year" in 2003. Unless of course you consider 99-02 a 4 year long fluke and '03 the real PK.

Other than that, he has been quite good, INCLUDING the 2nd half of last year.
winninguglyin83
my sense of Konerko is he tries TOO HARD and puts Too Much pressure on himself. If he could ever relax a bit, I think it would be beneficial. But I'm certain he'lll return to the productivity of 2000-02. Heck, the guy was one of the best pllayers in the American League during the first half of 2002.
