DBAHO
Dunno but I just saw this on MLB.com The Sox have been in negotiations with infielder Tony Graffanino. If Graffanino signs, it will likely be in a backup capacity.
Pastime
If Graffy leaves, I would consider Geoff Blum (formerly of the Houston Astros). He's a pretty good utility player.

I heard he's makin bout 2 to 2.5 million for 2004, and that's why Houston wants to trade him, so they can mayb hav a betta shot at gettin Pettite. Pastime
Well, I don't know who we could sign. We have no one in the minors, and I can't find any free agent utility guys except Blum.
greasywheels121
I'm really surprised we didn't make an offer to him. I remember seeing that Tony G. was JR's favorite guy on the team because of his work ethic etc. I guess that's exactly what we don't want. Rex Hudler
if graffy signs with Boston, is it possible to get a draft pick for him or no, cuz hes one guy that we cant let leae empty handed????? Graffy is not listed on the list of free agents on the latest BA. I am not sure what classification he is considered. My guess is he is a Class B free agent, which would give the Sox a first or second round pick from the team that signs him. Of course, the Sox will have to offer him arbitration by December 7, which I believe they will.
Cerbaho-WG
We would get no compensation for Graffy. He is not even classified as a Type C player.
Rex Hudler
We would get no compensation for Graffy. He is not even classified as a Type C player. I don't think that is the case, Cerb. I am checking on that and hopefully will get clarification. I think all free agents are classified.

I think all free agents are classified. I was thinking the same thing, but I could be wrong. What exactly is Class C comp. I'm so lost on the MLB rules. Speaking of Rules, when is the Rule V draft coming up?
winninguglyin83
seems obvious the Sox are going to use Miles and Harris as the new, less expensive, utility guys. The problem: Who is going to play SS if Valentin gets injured? We've got NOTHING behind him. I guess we're going to have to wait until the big spenders set the market, but things are looking grim at 35th and Dan Ryan.
Guest JimH
The only guy they have is this guy Dranfeldt, whom they signed to a minor league deal, there is still a link on the main White Sox site. He can play a couple different positions but it doesn't appear he can hit ... a definite downgrade from Graffanino. I expect there will be LOTS of players available after 12/20. I don't expect the Sox to really get things done until January.
Chisoxfn
I still firmly believe that Jose will eventually get dealt.

Rex Hudler
Is Jason Dellareo (Sp?) available? You were close on the spelling, Yas. It's Dellaero. And if Dellaero were here, you wouldn't have to worry about the defense at SS, that's for sure. Too bad you couldn't play him and DH for him instead of the pitcher!
