DBAHO
Doesn't look like he's comin back to Chicago. From Ken Rosenthal's Inside Dish The A's are enamored of free-agent CF Mike Cameron and would move Mark Kotsay to a corner outfield position if they could squeeze Cameron into their payroll. Switch hitter Bobby Kielty would become a fourth outfielder, with RF Jermaine Dye serving as an occasional DH. ... The Padres also like Cameron but might need to settle for CF Kenny Lofton unless they trade OF Terrence Long and/or RHP Kevin Jarvis. The team wants to add a lefthanded reliever such as Steve Kline or Ricardo Rincon, then acquire a bargain starting pitcher after December 20 non-tender deadline, the date when pitchers such as Freddy Garcia and Mark Redman can become free agents and Livan Hernandez still can be had in a trade. ... The Giants are considering free-agent Todd Walker at first base, and the Devil Rays see him as a third baseman/DH. The Royals viewed Walker as an option at third before re-signing Joe Randa. ... The Cubs remain overloaded with righthanded hitters after adding 1B Derrek Lee and want to sign a lefthanded-hitting fourth outfielder such as Chris Singleton, Orlando Palmeiro or switch hitter Jose Cruz Jr. ... The Astros are willing to take back a starting pitcher in the $6 million range to purge their $14 million commitment to RF Richard Hidalgo. The Braves think they can find a more cost-efficient right fielder -- someone such as Jacque Jones or Juan Encarnacion -- to replace Gary Sheffield. ... Free-agent LHP Gabe White held first batters to a major-league low .152 on-base percentage last season. Braves RHP John Smoltz was next at .177. The major league average was .325. White is expected to receive a two-year, $5 million offer to rejoin the Yankees. The Astros, Cardinals and Cubs also have interest.
Gene Honda Civic
i don't see him as a Billy Beane-type he strikes out alot, unless he's playing the sox, or facing jim parque. He doesn't have that high of a OBP. Plus he made 7.4 MIL last year. I doubt Beane is goign to pay that price Cameron's Career Stats Check out comparable players down at the bottom. winninguglyin83
agreed. No way Oakland can justify spending money on a guy who whiffs like Camerson while letting Tejada walk. Much easier to find a CF than a SS with the offensive tools of Tejada. I'll be stunned if Cameron plays for Oakland. That's an agent floating a rumor to start a bidding war, in my opinion. Price difference is the big thing hear. Tejada will end up costing probably $6-8 million more than Cameron.

Yeah, I definitely don't see Beane going after a guy like Cameron. I really wouldn't mind having the guy back if we can get him reasonably....but that'll never happen. Chisoxfn
Whoever gets him is gonna end up getting a bargain, imo cause he will instantly become one of the best CF's in baseball, both offensively and defensively. His offensive numbers will sore when he leaves Safeco. I wish KW could make a few moves cause I'd take Cameron over anyone in our outfield at 5 mill a year or less. I'd love to see him here for that. Unfortunatley, I don't see that happening, he's probably looking a 7-8 MIL/year. (just my guess)

cwsox
[Cameron'] offensive numbers will sore when he leaves Safeco. My fear too! The only place his batting isn't sore is one game a year against us. The rest of the time he is as sore of a batter as there is. Give me Everett, Rowad, JB - we have someone who can play cf and do better for us than cameron.
Chisoxfn
Vince...who do you think are the best cf's in the AL and the NL and then I'll do a little comparison for ya. I'll bring up his stats outside of Safeco and inside Safeco as well as try and figure out his OPS and such without the Cell, although I don't remember anything other then one huge game against the Sox. Mark my words, take him away from hte best pitchers park in the majors and Cameron is a .270-.285 hitter, with 30 hr's, 90-100 rbis, a ton of runs scored, a gold glove, and 15-20 steals. He is one of the best all around players in the majors and one of the least respected. Overall Mike Cameron had a .774 OPS (One of the best indicators, but not the only one). He also hit .253 with a .344 OBP, 18 HR, 76 RBI, and 17 steals although he whiffed a whopping 127 times. On the road he hit .268 with a .789 OPS, and a .357 OBP. Shockingly he hit more homers at home then on the road. Now lets take a look at his 3 yr avg. Overall it is a .253 avg, .345 OBP, .796 OPS with 82 steals (Over 20 a year). Away from Safeco he was .278, with a .364 OBP, and a .874 OPS. I'm not saying he would put that up over a full year, but thats a 3 yr average which is a very accurate way to evaluate a player whose basically in the beginning part of his prime at 30 years old. This doesn't even get into the fact that next to Torri Hunter he is the best centerfielder in the AL (and you could argue him better if not as good as Torri). For the hell of it, lets look at Magglio's 3 year average. He is a .314 hitter, with a .381 OBP, and a .939 OPS. While the avg and OBP are a bit better compared with Cameron's road stats, the OPS are similar. Both are very good and both are good overall players although Cameron is the better defensive player and baserunner (Not that there is anything wrong with Maggs). Mix that with the fact that Magglio will likely get paid 3 times more then Cameron and plays a less important position (Harder to get this type of production out of a CF then a RF) it to me makes him a much better possibility if the Sox can invest Magglio's money elsewhere. Now Frank...no one can touch Frank's stats. He is still a very productive player and although I b****, he was one of the better bargains last season. Bargains are what the Sox need if they want to be a small market team and they will definately have to start thinking a lot more thrifty if they want to compete cause over-paying guys when your crying poor won't cut it. Just find other options and roll with the bunches, ala Beane. I'm not a Beane lover, but he could do a lot with what the Sox have. Things could be worse, although I wish they were better. Capn12
I wouldnt wish Camerons bat in the Sox lineup on anyone!!! Yuck, I couldn't imagine having JosE6 hit after Kameron...thats a good 300 K's a year!!!! I'm just not much of a Cameron fan, obviously, and think the money could be spent much more wisely. That is, if JR spends money AT ALL.

That is, if JR spends money AT ALL. Well I'd much rather have Cameron then Jose...although you are right, you wouldn't want both of those players on the team. If I have a strikeout hitter on the team, I basically want that guy as the only strikeout hitter. But having Cameron in the back of the lineup gives you a ton of pop and he's a superior player to Jose. At the same time, Jose's breakdowns look good compared to most shortstops, but he blows with avg and obp..two big areas for me.
YASNY
All this talk about Cameron coming back to the Sox seems like a very moot point to me. I just don't see it happening after the Sox gave up on him.
