he's following up a solid year at Charlotte with an even better winter in the Mexican League.

-------------- Mexican Pacific League ----------------

TM PLAYERS AB R H BI AVG

CWS R.Gload LF 5 1 3 4 .322 - 43 RBI in 44 G

Gload will be the guy who will play a little first, a little outfield and a little pinch hitter.

In other words, a GRINDER (and the price is right).

I am intrigued with the possibility of Gload being with the club next year. I was not happy with Daubach and think some new face in the role might be good. However, I don't question Brian D's desire and you can never tell he just might be back with an incentive laden contract.

I think Daubach just got caught up in not playing as often as he was used to. Although he wasn't a 600 AB guy in Boston, he still played more there than he did with the Sox.

It is not easy being a part-time player and being successful.

I agree with you and should have added that to my original post. He seemed to be in the right spot in Boston and was able to step in and take over for injured players and be in the line up consistently.

I really like Gload. I think he COULD be the everyday starting 1B IF the Sox can deal Konerko AND decide to go the cheap route to save money by not bringing in a replacement. I have seen Gload play numerous times in person and on TV, both in the minors and a few brief stints in the majors. He reminds me a lot of a John Olerod/Mark Grace type hitter(without the ability to draw a ton of walks). However, he still has good plate recognition(doesn't strike out much and is a good 2 strike hitter) and a smooth, short, level, compact swing. He also impressed me as an athlete. He has the ability to play the outfield and 1B without a defensive dropoff, and is the second coming of Michael Johnson speed wise when compared to Konerko. I really think he should get a shot and prove why he is a career .300+ BA and .850+ OPS hitter in the minors.

Were seeing eye to eye on this. Gload has a nice, short compact swing, is very good defensively and has good speed for a first baseman. He can also play left and right field and is a smart baserunner and a patient hitter.

He would be a main stay in the majors if he was a little taller. He is very short for a first baseman and that is one of the reasons he's continually not given an opportunity, imo.

He will be a very solid asset and will be a productive player in the majors. I am pretty confident the Sox are gonna give him a shot this year.

Here is some of the poop on Gload:

He's from Brooklyn, played college ball at South Florida (Jason Dellaero University) and was a 13th round draft pick in 1997.

He's been in the farm systems of the Marlins, Cubs and Rockies. Got cups of coffees with the Cubs and Rockies.

Last season was his best. His .315 with 40 doubles and 18 homers with Charlotte (a hitters park). Drove in 70 runs in 508 at bats. Ks = 60. Walks only 29. His on base percentage was .349, his OPS .873, a career best.

Grounded into 12 double plays.

Throws left and bats left.

Look for him at American League parks near you.

Be careful what you wish for. If Gload is with the White Sox for Opening Day '04 it's "The Kids Can Play II". I have a feeling that is the direction this team will be going.

Un-f***ing-real.

But don't worry...we would of had to release him...but instead we made weekend games a PREMIUM

Dam... While other teams get better we gotta settle to discuss Gload.. Dam.. One thing impressive Winter numbers don't translate into ML succes. Just check out Willie Harris last year. Had a great season down here and we all know the story in the Bigs.... ;)

Ahhhh being a sox fan.. Dam we're Loyal

Gload would have to be at least as productive as Konerko was with the bat last season.  Though I still think Paulie's season was an aberration.  He had a damn piss poor year.

If Konerko gets shipped outta here and Daubach ain't comin back, Gload's really our only option at 1B besides Frank which will obviously worry a lot of ppl. Names like Scott Spiezio have been floated around as possibilities, but Gload to me projects to be a .260 to .270 with bout 10 to 15 homers a year. I think we should look at Minktiewicz as well, but there's no chance in hell he's comin here, especially afta what he said bout our fans and the all star game.

Those numbers you projected for Gload are very Spiezio-like. Why not keep the cheaper guy for the same production?

Ross Gload is going to be a quality utility guy, I dont understand why everyone is so disgusted by a guy who is going to be a lefty bat off the bench. Getting a chance to see this guy in action, I can tell you that he's an above average hitter, and can make some impressive plays at first. The Charlotte management loved the guy, and said that he was one of the nicest guys on the team. We all need to relax, Kenny has always made moves in the offseason (Whether good or bad) so I expect a very active winter meetings.

If Paully gets traded, I think we should keep Daubach and Gload. Daubach could play first base (Whenever Frank doesn't feel like it) or DH. He had some good numbers with Boston when he played consistantly. I don't think Daubach will cost too much because last year was so bad for him. Gload sounds like he could make the team as a 5th outfielder, backup firstbaseman, defensive replacemet? firstbaseman, pinch runner, left handed pinch hitter. If we end up trading Paully and Magglio, I want to keep a few guys like Daubach around with some power just in case Big Frank or Carlos gets injured.

Daubach's Career Hitting

I have no problem with Spezio if he is not too expensive. What about Travis Lee?
