1549
I imagine that the Sox will start valentin at shortstop, but personally I think Uribe should get the nod, with Valentin there to back him up. If Uribe started the entire season I imagine that he would end up in the .230-.250 range. Not good. But Uribe is fast, is a great defensive shortstop, and is playing under a manager who made a career by being the same style of player. If Uribe had some patience, then maybe he could be in the .260-.270 range. Uribe is still only 24 and the sox can be patient with him, as long as his defense remains sturdy. In my mind, sending him to Triple-A, or sitting him on the bench, would hurt his development. Any opinions on this?
SoxFanForever
Can't be any worse than St. JosE6. He has more upside than the mustache, thats for sure.
103 mph screwball
Based on the splits I've seen posted here in other threads, I think they should platoon. Uribe hits lefties and Valentine hits Righties. Uribe's splits Valentin's splits 103 mph screwball
CWSOX45
Valentin better not be our starting shortstop for 2004. Kenny move Valentin NOW! CWSOX45
Texsox
The SS isn't going to make a difference, get pitching or we're f***ed. No way for E-Lo to win 20 again. Mark will win a couple more, E-Lo a couple less. We have to either get Colon resigned or find another.

Especially since the Yankees are working their tails off to get Vazquez from Montreal. CWSOX45
BurlyMan56
Phillies and the Angels can still be possible suitors for Colon..Even with the Escobar signing...
SuperSteve
Both, Juan at 2B, Jose at SS.
BrandoFan
Both, Juan at 2B, Jose at SS. Step 1. Do not allow Valentin to bat RH. It's either take your chances lefty-vs-lefty or sit. Step 2. Let Uribe Duke it out with Willie for the right to start at 2B. Urine would be slightly better defensively while Willie is a little faster. The former can't hit righties and the latter- lefities. Step 3. Let Jose and Willie duke it out for the right to start against LHP.
TLAK
Based on the splits I've seen posted here in other threads, I think they should platoon. Uribe hits lefties and Valentine hits Righties. Uribe's splits Valentin's splits 103 mph screwball Based on the present roster I think you have it right. You have to protect Jose from lefties, and he is a very nice bat off the bench against righties in the latter innings.
gsoxs1
Valetin better not be a backup for 5 million a year. If there not going to play him trade him
DBAHO
Looks like the real reason the Rockies hsipped out Uribe was because they want Rich Aurilla to fill his spot instead. Rocky Mountain News Article
CSF
They need to trade Valentin ASAP. If I see another bases-loaded strikeout, I'm gonna puke. :puke
