The Beast
Explain why.
gsoxs1
First Mags dosn't know how to run the basis. Second he is a poor outfielder. Third he doesn't hit well in the clutch. Fourth he will be making 14 million next year. Finally Fifth, we have Reed or Borchard that deservre a chance. If we can updrade other areas by trading Ordonez I am all for it. SoxFanForever
Running the "basis" huh? He isn't a bad outfielder, he just makes quite a bit of dough.
gsoxs1
Yea I know, I am a bad speller sometimes. But I still think I have valid points.
Soxy
Hmmm, wanting Magglio gone and thinking it might better for his beastly salary to be cleared up for a starting pitcher or more depth are two very different things. I would love for Maggs to stay, but I just don't know how we can afford a team with a lot of depth with his salary taking up so much of the payroll.... TLAK
I voted yes. Maggs averages a .307 BA and 30 HR per year. When he is hot he carries the team, when not he still holds his own. He plays good defense, never has gotten in trouble off the field and never whines.

Maggs can't run the bases? Maggs can't play the outfield? What team have u been watchin? I haven't heard anyone say anything negative about his baserunning. And as far as him not being able to play the outfield. That's one of the dumbest comments i've ever heard. Magglio played an OUTSTANDING rf last year and has been solid for years. Maybe you're really a Cubs fan and was thinking Sammy Sosa. As far as keeping Maggs. HELL f***IN YEAH. He is no doubt in my mind one of the top 10 players in the al. But the price has gotta be right. 8-10 million is cool But 13, 14, 15 million? I'd probably trade him...
gsoxs1
Ok I was wrong on the fielding part. He was in top 3 in fielding % last 3 year. I can remember at leas 5 games last year where Mags made bad base running mistakes.
103 mph screwball
Voted no. I do not want him gone. However, if the Sox can have a better team and get quality talent in return for him, then KW should trade him. I'd miss him, but I think we all will be big Reed fans soon. Soriano, Gaciapara, or a top line pitcher, would make it less distasteful to see him traded. How does BeastlySoriano sound? 103 mph screwball
CSF
Voted no. Mags defense has improved tremendously, and honestly, if Ichiro weren't playing in RF, Mags would be the best defensive RF in the American League. Though Mags started slowly this year, he still picked it up and got it going in the 2nd half. Unfortunately, we can't compete with the East Coast boobs in NY & Boston payroll-wise, so I fear we'll lose him. But if I had my way, he would be here long term. DBAHO
The problem is now is that we can't really deal Maggs because he wants to test free agency next year. We offered him a new deal on less salary deferred in the long term but he rejected that, so why would teams like LA rent him for one season and giv up heaps. greasywheels121
The only reason I would want Mags gone is if we're POSITIVE we can't resign him and/or keep him here. This seems to be the case; and for that reason, I think we might as well see what we can get for him. Out of the two deals that are going around, I like the Baltimore deal more because of Jay Gibbons. I do think we can get more for Mags though. I'm getting that sinking feeling that what happened with the A's & Jason Giambi is gonna happen to us. Mags will leave via FA, and we get squat. Al Lopez Ghost (old)
I voted yes, because his salary is too high for our payroll, so you gotta move him. Plus I don't want CLee to be traded, and you probably can't move Konerko. But I will say this. I think we'll all be surprised by how little we receive for him. Not that he's not a valuable player, but the economics will screw up what we can't get for him.
Chisoxfn
Yes, because his salary is too high for the payroll. I can debate whether our payroll is too low for being a team in the city of Chicago, but thats something I think almost all of us would agree with. Since that isn't gonna change, the Sox can't compete with him making 14 mill a year. Especially when they have thats same ugly amount invested to Konerko and Koch and then another 5 invested to Jose. Maybe if they invested that money a little more wisely, we could keep Magglio. I want to see my 3 way trade happen where the Sox net 12-14 mill in salary and get Odalis Perez and Alfonso Soriano.
