BrandoFan
What the hell are the Expos thinking. $$$ They could of done so much better hten this. I am sure they tried. Vazquez is one of the best young pitchers in the NL He might not be a year older than he is, but he turns 28 next year. He is as much a young pitcher as Weaver. And frankly I think he is overrated. 4.15 career ERA in the National league? That translates into 4.40+ in AL. If Contreras is healthy, he will be a #4 in that rotation. FOUR. and all they get in return is Nick Johnson. Johnson is good NJ is a young John Olerud. If his wrists ever heals completely, watch out. This deal is absurd considering the importance of pitching. Expos are not going anywhere in 2004. To them it hardly matters if they win 80 games instead of 76. whitesoxfan99
What the hell are the Expos thinking. MLB is thinking for them. They really don't have much of a shot as long as they are owned by MLB.
DBAHO
Millwood's in a tough spot now. Philly offered him a 3 year deal, but he wants 4 or 5, which is crazy in this type of market at the moment. Now with da Yankss gettin Vasquez, if they resign Pettite they mite almost be done starter's wise. Boston ain't gonna get any1 else, and I'm not sure Anaheim can afford Colon or Millwood now that they signed Escobar without movin some contracts first. I really like our chances of gettin one of em now.
YASNY
For the most part, I think the days of 4 and 5 year contracts for pitchers are history. Contract insurance costs go up significantly when the contract is longer than 3 years. And with his particular outlook on pitchers over the years, JR has actually been right about not signing them to long term deals.
