BrandoFan
If we trade Magglio (and given the 14-15 Mill a year salary/rumor we absolutely should), how about getting Cameron to play CF, a move that would allow Rowand/Reed/Borchard move over to RF. Everyone knows Mike is a much better player than his Ks or BA would indicate, and Magglio totally lacked intensity in 2003 and is unaffordable.......Give Cameron 4 Mill plus a mill in insentives to outbid Seattle, and considering how well he hits at USCF, he might want to reconsider hating the Sox... Goes without saying, the almost 10 Mill difference in salary will allow us to get a TON of talent at the dead-line in 2004. Just an idea. The Beast
Yes, but Cameron is a Free Agent. Sign-and-trades DO NOT happen in the MLB.

First move Maggs. Then bring in the rich man's Toriiiii Hunter.

However, I would be obviously concerned that JR would not spend the savings on other players to upgrade the team as a whole. I'm a little concerned in regards to how much he strikes out. The Sox don't need another candidate for--man on third, one out, sox player x up, promptly strikes out looking.

Queen Prawn
Do you prefer a DP instead? 'Cuz Magglio and Paulie and Carlos and Frank take requests. LOL!!! Sad thing is how true it is, especially for PK and Maggs....

cwsox
Everyone knows Mike is a much better player than his Ks or BA would indicate I don't know that - actually, I kind of use Ks and BA as a measure of a hitter. A "great" hitter who hits 225 is still a 225 hitter. Cameron has one good game a year. I have no desire to bring in players we have gotten rid of because we already know their names and we like them cuz they were favs. I cannot think of any reason to have Cameron back, certainly not by anything he has done in Seattle other tahn his 1 game a year. This thread did ellict the quite of the year from beastley - so its all good!

A "great" hitter who hits 225 is still a 225 hitter. I prefer RC27/OPS/OPS+ coupled with situational stats such as RISP, etc. I also use Total Defense and Total Baserunning when evaluating a player's worth. I am naive like that. Next year I think I might graduate to homer totals and batting average, tho. Fingers crossed. I also know the kind of hitter friendly stadium Safeco usually is and how it may psychologically affect the hitter. Cameron has one good game a year. He was very good from 1999 to 2001 and pretty solid if not exactly AS caliber in 2002-2003. I have no desire to bring in players we have gotten rid of because we already know their names and we like them cuz they were favs. I cannot think of any reason to have Cameron back, certainly not by anything he has done in Seattle other tahn his 1 game a year. At 3-4 Million a year? You bet your sweet ass he is worth giving a shot. He is an 825+ OPS'er (with good OBP) away from Safeco, and will be the best defender and second best baserunner on the team. Fans' good will is also not the last thing to consider when talking about the Sox.
