Guest wsc425
The Tribune Reported Wednesday that the White Sox, Expos, and Yankees were close on a three-way deal. Sources from an executive of another team said the sox and expos are near a deal. Another major league source said it could weigh on Williams obtaining Orlando Hernandez and trading him along with firstbaseman Jeff Liefer. It was not clear who the White Sox were prepared to send to New York. The White Sox could send either Glover, Wunsch, Osuna, or Marte as possible bargaining chips. In a move that can be related to trade, the White Sox could be close to signing a one year deal with Tom Gordon, who only played 34 games last year because of torn muscle behind his shoulder in 2002, but he finished the year strong for the Cubs. It is possible for the White Sox to just trade Liefer, a setup man, and one or two prospects. But the Sox could obtain Colon without sending a high prospect, by including the Yankees in the deal. The Yankees have expressed interest in trading Orlando Hernandez, and Sterling Hitchcock. Writers Thoughts: Oh...my...god...Kenny is listening to us!!! Woo Hoo!!! Please Kenny get this deal done. My hopes are that the Sox can get Colon, Orlando Hernandez and Sterling Hitchcock, yet they would trade Hernandez for Colon along with Liefer. With Tom Gordon coming in, it is possible the Sox can afford to trade Osuna, whos 2 million salary could be out of here. I'd like to see Glover have a good career, yet, I am not certain of who we will trade. Kelly Wunsch is a good man, a good player. Hopefully, the Chicago White Sox can get their 2000 form back right now, in 2003. GO WHITE SOX!!! GO FOR IT KENNY!!!

hold2dibber
After reading the article in the Trib, my first reaction was: "this is way too good to be true." I cannot fathom the Sox being able to obtain Colon for, essentially, Liefer and either Osuna, Glover, Marte or Wunsch. Why would the Yankees want to deal El Duque (and still pay his salary, according to the article) just for one of our middle relievers? Wouldn't El Duque make a pretty good middle reliever and give them more flexibility should one of their ancient starters break down? And finally, and most importantly, why in God's name would the Expos take so little for Colon? They traded some seriously good prospects for him. I think they'd want El Duque, Liefer, and another good prospect or two (e.g., Malone, Munoz, Webster, Honel, or someone like that). I'm confident that the Sox are major players in the Colon trade talks. I just don't believe they'll be able to get him so cheaply.
Molto
One, the interest for Colon has dropped. He will be getting 8.5 mil this year and is a FA, plus all that overweight crap that's been goin around. so they are going to trade him. The Bosox were only willing to give them Hillenbrand, Liefer, Hernandez and cash I think is better than Hillenbrand, still no Colon's value, but better. Second, the yankees are doing this so the BoSox don't get him. they would rather have us grab Colon than the Red Sox. I hope the guy we send to the Yanks isn't Marte though. I think he is too valuable as a reliever. I would rather give them Osuna or Wunsch, instead Glover or Marte. If we sign Colon to a long-term deal after, okay, but if not, it would suck. However, if this trade happens, to where we lose Liefer, Osuna and two minor leaguers (I'm hoping mid-level) I can deal with losing Colon after this season, cause a Colon on our team could bring us close to the WS. UrbanaSox83
As Homer would say.....Mmmmmmm...Colon..... Wow, whho would have thought that the Yankees are the team that has to dump payroll for almost nothing in return! This is the closest we'll probably ever see them to having a firesale in a long time, but it's good to see that George is being pinched.
