Brian Cooper - S - San Francisco Giants  Dec 6

Giants signed RHP Brian Cooper to a minor league contract.
Cooper went 15-9 with a 3.68 ERA for Triple-A Charlotte last season. The former Angel and Blue Jay isn't anything more than a Triple-A pitcher, but he should help Fresno.

Looks like we lost Coop.

I still don't see where the hell we would play Juan Gonzalez if we traded Maggs. IIRC, he doesn't have the arm to play RF, and unless he wants to learn how to play 1B, he ain't coming here unless Lee is dealt.

It's a risky move. Lee is turning into a hell of a player, and it would be kind of hard to see him go. But if Juan Gone stayed healthy, it would be worth it in the end(assuming he put up the same numbers he did with the Indians). He is a hell of a player when healthy.

About Guardado....yeah, it'd be sweet seeing him in a White Sox uniform. I think I love seeing Thomas hit huge ass bombs off of him more though. I think that was almost undoubtedly the best day of the season, by far. Second best probably would be Jose's walk-off against the Cubbies.

I think if they picked up Juan Gonzalez they would be playing him left field (Lee playing 1st or traded) or they would be playing him at DH (With Thomas at first).

Right field is not an option for him, imo. Right now I think the Sox probably just looked into it so they know whats out there in case Lee gets dealt. I don't think Kenny wants to deal Lee, but if he can't move Koch, get value for Maggs or move Konerko then he may have to move Lee so he can bring in the pitching he wants.

Agreed. I'd never thought about that.

We'd still need to get a RFer though....and would that not involve getting rid of Konerko as well? I mean, if you have Lee in LF, Thomas at 1B and Juan Gone DHing, there is no spot for Konerko. If we could trade him to LA for like one reliever(ala Mota or Shuey), and not have to pay a huge amount of salary, I'd be all for it. I'd much rather have a strong pen then a strong rotation, but in all reality, we could have both.

Okay, I know I need to get over it, but I sure wish we could have gotten Robin back. I'd love for him to end his career with the Sox. That's all.

Well, lets start build lists of possible players to fill the Sox's needs:

Antonio Osuna, i'd love to see him back

Jeff Nelson

Pedro Astacio, minor league deal or cheap

Miguel Batista

Also, if Maggs is dealt why not go after Vlad with the same kinda money they offered Maggs.

Arthur Rhodes would be a nice addition.

If the Sox's bring back Schoeneweis, Wunch, and Marte, i'll feel pretty good about our bullpen from the left side, but other than Koch and Wright we have nothing i feel good about from the right side. If Sullivan is brought back than were half way there, but a Osuna, Ligtenberg, or Nelson would make me feel much better than another lefty.

Maggs is due $14 million. He wasn't offered anything. The whole point of trading Maggs would be to use that money elsewhere, not just replace him with another player making the same amount. We would be no better off.

The Sox's tried to offer Maggs an extension, but they were too far apart. I say give that money to Vlad (if possible) and trade Maggs for cheap pitching, maybe prospects. What the hell does it matter, nothing of this sort would ever happen.

True enough but I am still not a big fan of wunch. Another guy I like is Todd Worrell but he might get more attention with his success closing last year.

If the Sox aren't willing to pay Sully 3 mill, then there is no chance they will offer Scho 3 mill which is what it will take or I think thats about the minimum he can get.

The Sox are gonna non tender him. I do agree it wouldn't be bad to trade Maggs, get cheap players that can contribute and have upside and then go out and sign Vladdy to bring the fans. You can get Vladdy for less then they are paying Maggs this year, if you ask me.

Osuna

Lightenberg

Rhodes

Benitez

Definately some others as well.
