Harry Chappas
You forgave him when he signed Belle? No disrespect, but Belle was a disaster. We never seem to sign the right guys. You folks lit into me last year but I still wish we'd signed Thome. Hell right now I wish we had Miles with Alomar leaving. Not to continue dumping but how was Belle a disater? Navaro was a disaster, Guillen may be a disaster, Bevington. Belle was the only good thing while Tapani was making Schueler look like a fool. Queen Prawn
Not to continue dumping but how was Belle a disater? Navaro was a disaster, Guillen may be a disaster, Bevington. Belle was the only good thing while Tapani was making Schueler look like a fool. From a PR standpoint he wasn't a hit from what I remember. JR went on and on about how big contracts are bad for baseball and he gives him a huge contract. But then again, maybe my memory isn't working correctly this morning... winninguglyin83
Belle wasn't a disaster, but he was no savior. he started slowly in at least one, if not both seasons. One year he put up a ton of numbers in the second half after the team was buried. He blew off the fans, stiffed the media and got involved in the dustup with the female fan. For the money he got, he was no bargain, which the Sox figured out before wisely dumping their problem on the Orioles.
Al Lopez Ghost (old)
I am hoping to go into this season with all the pessimism I can muster. I'm hoping to set my sights on breaking the all time loss record. I'm trying to set my frame of mind that this will be the all time worse baseball team ever put on a field. With that frame of mind, the season will not dissapoint and may even be fun. I remember the pain of getting swept in the opening series after practicly booking a flight for post season play. Not this year. The best we can finish is 5th, possibly 4th if the Tigers lose a couple of their top players. I believe that the White Sox full name in print, on TV and radio next year will not be the Chicago White Sox. It will be the Hapless White Sox. Steff
He blew off the fans, stiffed the media and got involved in the dustup with the female fan. ROTFLMAO!!! I absolutely love the descriptive adjectives! What you know of Albert you know from the media. And since he didn't talk to them.. why would you believe anything they reported? And for the record, the Sox didn't "dump" him. Albert did exactly what Pay Rod did.. went for the $$. He knew his days were numbered because of his hip and The O's were stupid enough to give it to him. And he may have started slow both years.. however both starts would be excellent for 75% of the league still today. And is it his fault that the rest of the team failed to produce in the second half of the season? And buried...? The last time I checked the season ends in September.. how is it his fault that the team was buried in July, and he was one of the only ones to keep doing his job? BrandoFan
Belle wasn't a disaster, but he was no savior. I saw him at the end of 1998 and he was scary good. But looking back at the overall stats, you're right. To be fair, Sox were no match for the Indians coming off the year where they were 2 outs away from winning thwe World Series. Had Belle started off super-hot, it would have been closer, true.....but the fact is Tribe Dynasty was a little too much for us.......Now if you wanna talk about disasters, Konerko singlehandedly ruining our chances this year (and Todd Ritchie and Thomas slow start in 2002).....lolo. He blew off the fans, stiffed the media and got involved in the dustup with the female fan. Oh s***, you done it now......... For the money he got, he was no bargain, which the Sox figured out before wisely dumping their problem on the Orioles. He made 11 Mill when the payroll was 55, right?
