Cy Young Porzio
the main question is who will be our #1 starter. I think it will go like this. Beurhle- younger than colon, more potential to be better, and is more comfortable with the sox and comiskey. Colon-close to beurhle and our 3rd guy isnt even close to him Garland- hoping for a consistently good year from him, but a sold 3rd guy either way Rausch- 4th because he will mature very quickly and he will dominate, will compete with garland. Wright- im not very high on this guy who is definately the weak link. i would have preferred starting biddle over him b/c he loses too much. however, he is young and could change my mind. CubKilla
Well..... in your top 3 you have a power pitcher and 2 finesse pitchers (Garland is finesse..... I don't care what anyone says). You gotta go finesse, power, finesse. Thus..... Buehrle, Colon, Garland, Wright and Rauch. I'd put Rauch in the 5 spot simply because the 5 spot is usually where the least amount of pressure is..... unless you've lost 3 of 4 and the 5 spot is going to try and salvage one game for you. Man..... it's nice knowing you have 2 number ones and debating who should be your number one and two.

HawkDJ
Some stats about our rotation: -Only the Diamondbacks, Athletics and Red Sox have 2 pitchers with more wins in 2002 than the Sox. -Only the Giants have more 12 game winners in 2002 than the Sox. The Sox have 4 (Buehrle,Colon,Garland,Wright).
Cerbaho-WG
The rotation will be: Buehrle Colon Garland Wright Rauch /me becomes giddy
witesoxfan
I'd actually put Garland-type pitchers into a different category...they don't throw real hard, but don't have finesse type stuff. Buehrle is finesse....he doesn't have a sinker or a cutter, but he does have a good changeup and a decent curveball. And Colon is a power pitcher...he can go 140 pitches sometimes and be fine in his next start, and that 140th pitch could be a 97 MPH fastball. He's a f***ing monster. But Garland-type pitchers are weird...they have power pitches, but don't throw it as hard as power pitchers....he has a decent fastball and a good sinker, but doesn't throw it that hard....he tops out at 94 or so with his pitches still breaking the way they should. Should we call him a power-ness pitcher or something? I don't know....but I'd go with a righty-lefty-righty combo....Colon, Buehrle, Garland....goddamn, that looks good. We have a sick starting rotation for how good our offense is right now, and the rotation is not even as good as it will be in a few years. We'll be very good come playoff time(assuming we're in). I can't believe you're so against this acquisition HSC. God knows I'm not a fan of KW, but come on..... you don't like this acquisition because he pitches like Fisk caught? Who the f*** cares????? Me and Guido were at a game either last season or 2001 and Bartolo increased his velocity as the game wore on (93-94 in innings 1-4, 96-97 in innings 6-7 or 8). So what if he tanks? All we lost was Liefer (who wasn't going to start for this team anytime soon), Osuna, and Biddle..... Biddle being the only one of the 3 I'd want back if offered the opportunity to take one back. UrbanaSox83
Cub, I can't agree with you more. HSC should go watch a hockey or football game, games with actual CLOCKS...thankfully baseball has no time limit, so Colon or any pitcher for that matter, can take as long as they damn well please (ok, that's some hyperbole, but it ain't like a 24 second shot clock). Plus, any player that touches KW's hands is automatically open for criticism, cuz of her vendetta against Kenny. I'll be honest, i'm a KW supporter, but I'll criticize him when it's warranted. This time he should be applauded. If Kenny's grandmother jaywalked in the street, she'd probably turn her in. lol

baggio202
right now the sox are the only staff in baseball with 4 - 30 start / 190 IP pitchers....this imo is huge...it saves us from burning out a suspect bullpen..add one more solid starter and id say we are a lock on the division

Molto
it isn't about stick our heads out of his asses. I know the mistakes KW has made, I, nor anyone here is really glorifying him. when KW makes a bad move, I say it, when it's a good move, I say it. but you are just complaining about the bad and complaining about the good ones. listen HSC, your anger for the Sox is valid. KW hasn't been the best GM, but I think you are WAY off when you say KW ruined the team of 2000, especially when that team went into the season with the expectaions of winning 80-85 games TOPS. they won 10 more games than they themselves thought. Their offense was great, but very inconsistent and lucky. Their staff was solid, but had two bad arms in Parque and Eldred. Their bullpen was awsome, but went to s*** the year after because most of the guys wore out their arms in 2000. 2001 was filled with 6-7 pitching injuries and a Thomas injury, not his fault. and 2002 consisted of the Ritchie trade (which I liked) but in the end turned out to be horrible. but do you think we would've been much better with Wells and Fogg? the only reason Fogg pitched good (IN THE FIRST HALF) was because the Pirates had no other plans for the rotaion. Fogg wasn't going to start in 2002. and Wells, although talented, never got comfortable here. Now people will bring up the Baldwin and Durham trades, but this those two really set this organization back from the 2000 team? the 2000 was VERY LUCKY HSC, KW didn't destroy anything. He didn't help the cause completely, but he didn't dismantle it by a long shot. god I'm tired, this post may not have even made any sense. Molto
nobody should jump on the badwagon, hell, there shouldn't even be one because bandwagons are pathetic in general. the thing is if people are going to complain about KW and the Sox, saying that they never try or KW is too stupid to do this or that, they should acknowledge when the unthinkable happens. KW made a good trade today that, as baggio said, gives us 4 pitchers who could combined, throw 800 innings, not many teams can say that, especially when they have a strong offense and bullpen. we have two 20-game-esque winners on our team, backed by two young, talented guys who showed signs of success many times in 2002. Usually a team with two 20-game winners and a guy like Garland are looked at as a pretty damn good team.
