soxfan420
maybe they are saying they can spend 60 mill but maybe they will pay 70 mill. you never know if they are just saying this so players to ask for big money.
Flash Tizzle
Im stealing this idea from someone who said it earlier (he was new so I dont recall his name): But the person said that JR wouldnt be with this organization for 20 years UNLESS he was making money out of it. I believe the Sox could atleast put forth an extra 10 million without running into financial problems.

mac9001
Can the Sox's increase the payroll to 70 million, most likely they can, but will they? Hell NO!

Molto
I actually thought about this the other day, thinking that may be saying $58 million as a safeguard, meaning if they spend more they are pleasing the fans but not really going over their budget and if they spend that exact amount they are pissing off their fans but saving money. it really doesn't make much sense though once you think about it, but for a split second in your head it does, lol. Pastime
I don't believe anything that Jerry Reinsdorf says. I could be standing in a thunderstorm getting soaked, and if he told me it was raining, I would still think he was lying to my face. I don't trust him as far as I could bowl him. YASNY
If that's the case, then it's only posturing for the sake of negoiations. Which, by the way, is a fairly common business practice. That's the American way, folks. No big deal.
