The Beast
If they do this they are idiots. They aren't getting Soriano, as the GM in Seattle said NO already. Got that! NO! Look, I am a HUGE Maggs fan, don't give me this bs that we don't need magglio and we can't afford our payroll. I mean lets see Thomas-8 mil Valentin-5 mil Lee-6.5 mil Ordonez-14 mil Koch-6 mil Now there are rumors out of Florida. Wouldn't you much like to see the Sox trade Koch INSTEAD of Ordonez? I sure as hell would. Yes, we could get Burnett, but he is under the non-tender list, so lets wait. I mean honestly all of you, why the hell would you trade Maggs? He's the only real player with heart on this damned team. Thomas won't be gone. Neither will Lee be gone. Neither will Ordonez. Valentin, Konerko and Koch? Yes. So cut this rumor bulls*** out and apologize for even thinking of TRADING Magglio! Boy I am steamed and tired of this b.s., after all I'd change my name to nonbeastlypeopleofthesitepostbs! MERCY! Chisoxfn
Well, we don't know who said no on Soriano and with Tejada not going to Seattle it changes the playing field.
The Beast
Good. But I am asking you, why the hell would u trade Maggs? He's the only one who plays with HEART. Hell, do you think they would swing Valentin and a minor leaguer for Garcia?

Hell, do you think they would swing Valentin and a minor leaguer for Garcia? Beastley, we understand why you are upset. However we have no idea why they would want to trade Maggs other than the fact that they said they can't afford to re-sign him. We'll just wait and see. Someone has got to get moved eventually. YASNY
Well let someone go, but don't let it be maggs... Beastly, If we can't sign him should we just let him walk at the end of the year?
BurlyMan56
I say trade him now while you can get some quality talent and save money at the same time for other guys out there...We're gonna be stacked on draft picks this year and I don't want Maggs to just leave with nothing left in return...Try to resign him to a reasonable deal if nothing pans out-Thank You and Good Luck with your new team that Im sending you too...Maggs is a fan-favorite, but Baseball is a Business. Hell, do you think they would swing Valentin and a minor leaguer for Garcia? Because 14 mill is too much on a team that is gonna have a 58 mill payroll. If he was willing to negotiate a long term contract at 10 mill a year for like 3-4 yrs, then I'd say keep him, but as of now he is demanding a ridiculous amount. greg775
At the risk of beating a dead horse, if we trade Maggs it really looks to the general public like a white flag sale. And we will quickly be becoming the Cleveland Indians if we do so.
DBAHO
Because 14 mill is too much on a team that is gonna have a 58 mill payroll. If he was willing to negotiate a long term contract at 10 mill a year for like 3-4 yrs, then I'd say keep him, but as of now he is demanding a ridiculous amount. Exactly rite. We cannot afford to have 1 player take up almost 1/4 of our payroll. Only teams like the Yankees and Red Sox can do that. I want Nageotte and Soriano minimum for Maggs, those 2 together and mayb Randy Winn as well would be nice, because Garcia is goin to be non tendered anyways. Also KW thinks he can resign Carlos Lee to a 4 year $20 million deal which is excellent value, hence why he'll shop Maggs now. We trade Maggs we can get 2 more relievers and mayb another startin pitcher like Livan Hernandez. We tried to get Miguel Batista for 2 years at 4.25 mill but he went to Toronto instead because they offered a longer deal.
whitesox61382
14 million reasons why he should be traded. Maggs is one of my favorite players, but I root for the team before I root for individual players, and if trading Maggs makes this a better team, than he should be traded. Furthermore, the Sox will have about 63-65M tied up next year after arbitration and increases, and reports say that the target payroll is around 58M. That means the Sox will probably have to cut about 5-7M AND fill holes in the rotation, 2B, and relief pitching among others. You want to trade Konerko, Valentin, and Koch, but you don't understand that few teams have interest in those players because of the combination of their salaries and performance. Furthermore, you probably won't get much in return AND will probably have to eat some of their salary OR take on a big salary in return. Maggs is probably the only player that will 1) net the Sox some decent talent to fill holes and 2) give them SOME financial relief. This is why the Sox are in a tough situation and is probably the reason why the Sox haven't made any moves so far.

I wouldn't say 14 mil is ridiculous for maggs. He's worth the cash, but we just can't really afford him. Obviously if we could move some overpaid players, then we'd probably be able to swing it. It sucks though as maggs is definitely the heart and soul of the team.

Rowand44
Beastly, we all love maggs, but is he worth 14 mill? I don't think so, it would be real tempting if you could get garcia and soriano for maggs, plus jerry would save 5 to 6 mill(depending on what freddy makes in arbitration) that move would fill the rotation, plus giving us extra money to maybe sign todd walker or some bullpen arms, then you've just filled tons of holes trading maggs. Personally I would do garcia and soriano for maggs.

Ticket prices are up again this year , who is to say we cannot sign Maggs after next year with the rise in income JR has to spend some of it on players. JR cannot continue to raise prices year after year and then cry we need to maintain a small market payroll.

Wise Master Buehrle
Mark my words, Koch will be much improved this year. I agree with you. BK is very intense, and he wanted nothing more than to help the White Sox. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful, and made out to be horrible. A year of rest should be very good for him, and I look forward to seeing him in Spring Training.

Maggs has stated he's goin to test Free Agency no matta who he plays for in 2004 because he didn't rework his deal this offseason to include more years and backload it more so he can be paid more in the comin years. I mean, Gary Sheffield is making $13 mill a year, so he must be. Or is Gary Sheffield just a bargain at that price? Point blank, Maggs is WAY overpaid. He's worth more like $8-$10 mill a year, and in a money-strapped organization, that $4-$6 mill can make all the difference in the world. Anyways, I think this is a moot point. I don't think we'll contend this year and Maggs will be gone by the trade deadline, probably along with Esteban. Atleast we'll be able to bring in a s***load of talent for them. witesoxfan
And by the way Beastly, Thomas is making $6 mill, not $8, and is MUCH more valuable than Maggs is.

Hell, do you think they would swing Valentin and a minor leaguer for Garcia? Cause Maggs ain't worth 14 Million Bucks, Cause he ain't an impact player either. Maggs probably will be traded, This is a Buissness(sp?) and unfortunatly we got a cheap Owner. If Maggs brings us 3 quality players and Payroll flexibility than Thanks Maggs, But GoodBye. I loved Robin Ventura, Even batted like him and wore his number, But he was gone and I moved on. Just check out what Seattle Did when they Traded Griffey and Johnson. Gotta look at the long term plans too. Will you be upset if Maggs ain't traded and he walks after 2004, and we get only a dam Draft Pick??? Think about it

Texsox
Mark my words, Koch will be much improved this year. I have the same gut feeling, I wish there was something based in fact to back it up. I would have been happier if he said he needed surgery for a hang nail on his middle toe. The only players other teams are really interested in on our roster (in order) Maggs Lee Thomas Koch Valentin Kong I've felt all along that Maggs or Lee will be in a new uniform next year. I was less certain about Thomas. I will be very shocked if all three are playing together next season, except for maybe an all-star game.
