Ordonez Deal Stuck on Hold

Some Tidbits from it:

So why does Sox general manager Ken Williams still view the trade as a long shot? Because sources say Williams is asking for a starting pitcher, a reliever, two prospects and enough payroll relief to sign an adequate replacement, perhaps Juan Gonzalez or Reggie Sanders. (Williams met Sunday with Gonzalez's agent, Alan Nero.)

The Dodgers, meanwhile, appear willing to trade lefty Odalis Perez—or right-hander Freddy Garcia, assuming they acquire him from Seattle—but are reluctant to part with right-handed setup man Guillermo Mota (1.97 ERA in '03) or any of their top prospects

Williams is still investigating a deal that would send Koch to the Mets. The teams had discussed a swap for reliever David Weathers, but the Mets reportedly also wanted cash to make up for the $2.775 million difference in salaries.

Mets manager Art Howe, who saw Koch thrive in Oakland, added fuel to the rumors Sunday by praising Koch. Howe apparently believes Koch's struggles with the Sox—he had a 5.77 ERA and lost his closer's job—were a one-year blip.

I'm confused.....so confused.

Are we making deals are we not, WHAT THE f***?!?!

Hmmm Maggs and a Prospect for Perez, Mota and Jackson and/or Miller.

I wish the Dodgers would just do it. They need some Offense.....Bastards!

Well Best Case Senario This is the pitching Staff:

Starters:

Mark Buehrle

Esteban Loaiza

Odalis Perez

Jon Garland

Edwin Jackson

Bullpen:

Damaso Marte

Guillermo Mota

David Weathers

and 2 of the following: Arnie Munoz, Kelly Wunsch, David Sanders, Scott Schoeneweis, Matt Ginter and any FA's signed as BP help.

Well here's my take on the deal.

KW wantin Gonzalez or Sanders to replace Maggs shows that Jeremy Reed IS NOT goin to play with the White Sox in 2004. Give him a full year at Triple AAA like Bobby Crosby did this year, and plug him in to the lineup in 2005.

If KW gets offered Mota, Odalis Perez and two of the top prospects just for Maggs, HE HAS to take this deal. For a guy who is most likely to walk at the end of 2004 to Free Agency to get 4 excellent players for him is an oppurtunity KW just can't pass up. I think he'll ask for one of Miller or Jackson, most likely Miller, and prob James Loney. The deal could be made much more interestin if we can throw in Jose or Paulie into the deal as well. This would allow us to go afta another startin pitcher and imagine a rotation of Buerhle, Loaiza, Perez, (Maddux, Ponson, Hernandez or Garcia) and Jon Garland. I think we should only add 1 more reliever instead of gettin 2 and miss out on a startin pitcher. The Dodgers and Mariners are rumored to be close on a deal, but I don't think it'll be for Freddy Garcia but mayb Randy Winn which could hurt our chances of tradin Maggs. If Shawn Green still wants to move to 1st though, they need another outfielder. Ozzie's talkin bout the trade bein Maggs for Mota, Jackson and Perez, and if that is indeed what the Dodgers are offerin, they should take it. However, if they can throw in Konerko or Valentin and get another of their stud prospects, they should try to do this as well.

I'm in 100% agreement with you on this.

LA pisses me off. Did they see where all the pitching got them last year? If they continue to baby their pitching prospects (or Molta) they're are going to have a s*** offense, AGAIN. Watch their fans start b****ing when they lose 2-0 ball games all throughout the season. Gagnes useless unless your team is actually in the lead.

I do think Reed should spend at least a couple of months at AAA. There is no need to rush this guy. He has only spent half a year in the upper minors. Rowand should be given the starting CF job, and IF Maggs is traded then finding a cheap replacement is a good idea. Both Gonzalez and Sanders put up similar OPS's to Maggs, and would cost about 1/4th of what Maggs would cost. Lets hope JuanGone stays healthy if the Sox do sign him, because he would be a solid replacement on and off the field(he still has a big name and would soften the PR blow of losing Maggs).

When I read the Sun Times article I got the impression that it was more speculation then an actual offer that KW made. There is absolutely no way that the Dodgers trade Perez(or Garcia if they get him), Mota, and 2 of their top 4 prospects for Maggs. Evans isn't a good GM, but even he isn't that stupid. The Dodgers do have pitching to trade, but giving up a young middle of the rotation starter, a key set up guy in the pen(who will play a bigger role with Quantrill gone), and 2 top pitching prospects isn't going to happen. I think the Sox would be lucky to get a Perez, Mota, and either Miller/Jackson deal. Keep this in mind to help put things into perspective. Reports have said that the M's rejected a Garcia and Soriano for Maggs deal. That is similar to the Dodgers rejecting a Perez and either Jackson/Miller trade, so hoping to get that AND Mota would be lucky. If KW did get an offer like the above he would be stupid to pass it up, as much as love Maggs. Furthermore, if the Sox get someone like Perez or Garcia, than I highly doubt they sign Ponson(mostly for financial reasons). If the above deal went done, than they would also get a young starter like Jackson/Miller who could be a good 5th start and compete with Rauch/Diaz/and maybe Cotts(odds are 1 of those guys could put together a decent year and live up too their potential). Furthermore, they would need to find a replacement for Maggs and hopefully a 2B that can hit at the top of the order.

I am not sure how much interest that the Dodgers have in either Konerko or Valentin. While they did free up some money with the KBrown trade, they still aren't going to make stupid decisions and add big salary underachievers just because they have money to spend. I am sure that they would rather have Nomar, and IF the ARod trade goes through, than the Dodgers become the favorites to land Nomar(meaning they would have no interest in Valentin). Evans has shown that he really doesn't want Konerko, so hoping to include him in a deal with Maggs(which means they would be adding 22.5M for 2 players) is highly unlikely. Why not try and sign JuanGone or Sanders for 3-5M and get much better bang for your buck? I think a domino affect will happen after the ARod trade does/or doesn't go through. Teams will have a better understand of what they need and the possibilities available to address their needs. I don't think you will see a Sox trade until that is clarified. Furthermore, you might not see a trade until the Dec 20 non-tender deadline to see if players like Garcia could be had for nothing in return.

Sorry for the length ;)

There was a deal DBAHO had in his post, I believe something like Maggs for Perez, Mota, and Jackson.....if that deal came up, and I was the GM, Perez would be in a White Sox uniform. I would not hesitate at all. I would then contact Juan Gone's agent, see if I can get a 2-year deal done for about $4-6 mill per, and I would pretty much have my lineup set.

I still think we could use another LH bat in the middle of the lineup....but I would hope that a trade would come up and I could get a LH bat or two, or maybe there is still a LH bat out there who is unsigned.
