Texsox
Seriously. Why does Bill Wirtz still own the BlackHawks? What does he get out of it? I know it's an exclusive club he belongs to by owning a pro sports team, but the franchise hasn't held Lord Stanley's Cup in 42 years and the last time it was at the Stadium it was a Penguin holding it (IIRC). Does he really enjoy this? Why does he continue to let Pully do anything? Why does he keep hiring Sutters? Why aren't home games on local TV? Does he even care anymore? Isn't he ready to retire and please don;t tell me there is a Wirtz Jr. ready to take over.

And actually there are TWO Wirtz kids all set and ready to take over when Daddy Scrooge dies.
Texsox
I feel better now. At least the Hawks are at the top of some standings

Remember when you couldn't find Smirnoff Ice in Illinois, but it was in every other state? Wirtz was trying to get the rights to distribute it because it has Smirnoff in its name (like the vodka.) Eventually it went to court, and like the Hawks, he lost. During that time period you couldn't find an ounce of it in Illinois, yet they made the s*** in Plainfield. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about or have more info? :fyou Wirtz for keeping Smirnoff Ice out of Illinois for so long.

Wirtz also was the point man in IL on the law that was passed that basically made it impossible to switch liquor distributors, and then right away raised all of their prices after it passed. The law was later thrown out as illegal.
The Critic
I'd also imagine there's some perverse thrill to be had in watching a team and its fanbase wither up and die.

That old bastard couldn't care less if we ever won the cup again. Hes in it for the money plain & simple.

YASNY
Which Chicago ownership, aside from the Trib, isn't in it for the money? After that ticket scam they pulled on the Cub fans last year you say the Trib is NOT in it for the money? Gimme a break.

Yeah I would have to say the Trib crossed the line from greedy, to rape and pillaging...
Texsox
I don't buy the in it for the money. While it is damn near impossible to lose value in a sports franchise, I don't think these guys make to much on a franchise. I think we have more Mark Cubans than Trib Companies in the owner ranks.
