Texsox
It seems that some of our high salary low 2003 result guys (kong, koch) aren't attracting much interest. At some point is it possible they may be thrown into a mad deal as "make up"? We'll take a little less in the main trade (Magg's or Lee) but you have to take one of these two salaries. That or I see a trade where we are picking up some of the salary. Thoughts?
The Beast
I just thought of this. How did we get the money for Colon when we can't take on our payroll.
supernuke
I just thought of this. How did we get the money for Colon when we can't take on our payroll. The same place we got the money for Albert Belle, every now and then JR will reach deep into his pocket and shell out some money for one big name player and hope that one guy will turn everything around. BrandoFan
It seems that some of our high salary low 2003 result guys (kong, koch) You know what, f*** this TRADE Konerko for half-eaten nacho trey ideas! f*** em all. I don't like his salary and I've always considered him overrated, but enough is f***ing enough. Wait until he starts hitting April-May and then try to shove him off for Perez.......If Sox want give every body away and keep this embrassingly low payroll all the while pretending they are doing their best and are "going for it right NOW"........then they are gonna lose me as a fan sooner than later. And Koch? Nobody WANTS his stank ass as he has no value.
mac9001
I just thought of this. How did we get the money for Colon when we can't take on our payroll. Its called special money. Around Chicago it shouldn't be hard to figure out where "special money" comes from.. after all this is the town where you vote early and vote often. YASNY
KONERKO AND KOCH DONT GET ATTENTION BECAUSE THEY WERENT GOOD LAST YEAR Just like Odalis Perez wasn't good last year, or Freddie Garcia wasn't good last year, yet we seem to want these guys bad enough to give them Maggs to get them. Screw that. Konerko and Koch do have value, just like these overpaid underachievers do.
Pastime
I know that we have some salary albatrosses on the team and all, but I don't want to trade them just for the sake of trading them. We have to get something decent in return for them, or it's just another exercise in futility. And when it comes to Maggs, I don't want a bag of balls and a bucket of urine in return. Unless we can get something decent in return, forget it. Yes, he will be a free agent after next year, but whatever team we potentially trade him to will immediately be getting a borderline superstar and increasing the firepower of their offense. In other words, I don't want to get hosed or taken advantage of. If that means that we're stuck with him, then I guess we are, and we'll just have to make the best of it. I do think Kenny overestimates the value of a lot of his players, but whatever he thinks about Maggs is probably very similar to what we think. Don't swear off Kong or Koch because of one lousy year. Hell, more and more Sox fans on here are starting to sound like Cubbie "instant gratification" fans everyday. Give these 2 some time next year to see how it goes, and then make a decision. Koch is off the books after 2004, why trade him for a washed up Roger Cedeno, or David Weathers? Take a shot that his act will be back together in 2004, and if it isnt, you have that 6.375 mill that you dont have to pay in 2005 anyways! Don't just trade guys just to be trading......have a purpose.
Pastime
I've seen it many times, and it always sticks the "we have to trade him" team up the ass. I can remember the NBA's 76'ers trading Charles Barkley for Jeff Hornacek and Clarence Weatherspoon because they "had to." They stunk for years while the Phoenix Suns went to the Finals - only to lose to my beloved Bulls. That's the only example I can come up with, but there are others. No, Wait. How about Seattle trading Randy Johnson to the Astros? Yeah, they got Freddy Garcia and Carlos Guillen in return, but Guillen always seems to be hurt, and Garcia has finally been figured out. Plus, he may have a suspect arm. Have either of those guys ever made the impact on their team that Randy did for Houston? He got them to the NLCS, while Garcia and Guillen have never even sniffed that. And now Garcia is such a "keeper" that his team is trying to dump him, and Guillen is such an "impact" player that his team tried to sign Miguel Tejada. You just never get in return what you traded away, IMO. Unless Dan Evans finds some brain cells for sale in a store, then stand tough against him. He'll either collapse or sell Mota and Perez for garbage, and we'll at least have a borderline superstar in our lineup next year. We hold the extra "ace" in this poker match, not Evans.
