Harry Chappas
I think KW is looking to free up $12M, easier said then done yes. The trade with the Dodgers (Ordonez) would do this. I am not sure who the 5 players we would get would be all that bad. Although I never really heard who they were, just SCR banter this morning about blowing the team up. With $12M we can make a run at Ponson and Garcia (3 yr - $18M each) stagger the money until after Koch, Konerko and Thomas are done and I like what we have. Buerhle-Loiaza-Garcia-Ponson-Garland-Perez (Dodgers) and we lose Ordonez (maybe Cotts or Rauch.) The thing would be, can these guys be had for 3yr/$18M? The guys are your list are nice but what would we do with them. We don't need a righthanded right fielder, Clemens ain't retiring to pitch here. Catcher is not a problem, Millwood is not worth $15M/yr and Maddux is over priced. Not sure where you want us to fit in here. Picking these guys up would be moves to make moves and that isn't very bright. Now, imagine what we could get for Ordonez and Olivo..........then sign Pudge? Soxy
Now, imagine what we could get for Ordonez and Olivo..........then sign Pudge? I just wouldn't be thrilled with that at ALL. Why lose two of our favorite players--one of whom is, I think, going to break out and be really good--for I-ROD who is probably only a season or two away from major decline. I say keep and develop Olivo, we'll be kicking ourselves if we don't. I'm resigned to trading Maggs, I guess, but I will be seriously mad if we get rid of our developing talent, Olivo, Crede, ARo... Favorite players are nice but winning is better. We would be getting a return on Maggs and Olivo. I don't agree with moving them but think of what could be had and holes addressed. Soxy
I didn't mean to imply that I don't think we should trade my favorite players. I wanted to get across, that trading away our young talent on the verge of what could be a great (and cheaper) career year would be rather silly. I think that if we trade away Olivo and Crede we would regret that move. Trading a more established player like Maggs, CLee or Thomas would of course get more, I am just strongly opposed to trading someone who is clearly on the upswing of his career and who is being paid much less than a veteran--and could easily develop a great amount of talent... southsideirish
Now, imagine what we could get for Ordonez and Olivo..........then sign Pudge? That is the dumbest thing I ever heard. Pudge is hurt a lot. Last year was the first time in a long time that I can remember him healthy for an entire year. Olivo is the best defensive catcher in the AL, no question. Once he learns to hit the breaking ball he will be outstanding. Why on earth would you trade Olivo to get a guy with, at the most, 2 more good years left at the catching position. Pudge will be moved to 2nd base or another position by the time he is 35. Catchers just cant play that position for that long.
Chisoxfn
I have no problem with that, I don't have much interest in any of those 6, although Vladdy would be nice...it ain't going to happen.

I paid attention to your post until I got to the point wher Pudge was moved to second then i realized your post was a joke. You move players to fix holes. Olivo was moved for Bradford. Think Olivo will hit a breaking ball as good as karkovice? You trade Olivo and Maggs together to get a front line pitcher and other front line players from a team that has a glut of them. i.e. Maggs/Olvio - Ichiro/Garcia/Guillen - Soriano/a pitcher from a another team We lost last year and I thought we had the best team in the AL. In 2000 we had the best offense in baseball (same nucleus as last year, Thomas, Lee, Ordonez, Konerko,) and we failed miserably in 2000 as we did last year when it counted. How many more times are we going to ride that train and watch it fail in the end. Ordonez will leave after next year because someone will overpay for him. Do we want compensation for him now or watch him to a do a Colon? The only free agent that we lost that I wish we had was Colon. I would rather have Garcia and Ponson and maybe spend a little more on them and have it cost us Orodonez. As warm and fuzzy as Magglio is, he can't hit in cold weather, last time I looked it gets cold in Chicago in September.
