Nomar

So you honestly think this trade will put us into the World Series?

No. I'm not even sure it will get us into the playoffs.

But more people will want to come out to watch him, and there's a chance that we could win the division(IMO, a better chance with Nomar and Williamson then with Magglio) and once you get in the playoffs, ANYTHING can happen.

And Nomar will get to play about 80 games against Minnesota, Kansas City, Detroit, and Cleveland, and doesn't have to face New York, Toronto, Baltimore, and Tampa Bay 80 times....or in other words, he hits against much s***tier pitching in the Central then in the East. We will not actually know what the major effect of the deal would be until the season is actually over. Maggs faces much tougher pitching in the AL East. However, he is in a much better lineup and would get better pitches to hit. (I won't take credit for this point....just re-iterating what Brando said first and was overlooked)

I really agree with what you're saying there. I understand Mags may not be the biggest clubhouse leader, and a Mags trade is imminent. I'd just personally rather do the LA deal.

A point I want everyone to see, Mags had better numbers in a pitcher's park than Nomar did in Fenway...

You're not calling USCF a pitcher's park, are you?

In 2002, which was a much more accurate year, the park factor for hitting was 103(over 100 favors hitting). This past year it was slightly less because we had no offense.

USCF is a hitter friendly park. It isn't in April, but come June and July, the balls fly out.

1. Does this trade make us into World Series favorites? No, it doesn't. Considering we averaged 83.5 wins in the last 2 seasons while playing one of the weakest divisions of the decade if not of all time.......and can barely muster 55 Mill worth of payroll......and haven't been to WS in 44 years.....people actually have the chutzpah to assume Yankee-esque, ultra-demanding posturing? Wow, we could trade Maggs for Barry f***in' Bonds and Sox still might not even win the ALC.......

2. People are talking about Maggs as though he is Vladimir Guerrero or Sammy Sosa in his prime....He had 99 RBIs this season hitting in a HITTER'S park, and generally ran the bases worse and hustled less in RF than ever before!!! An GIDP machine. He is also making 14 Million (look at Edmonds and Guerrero and Edgar for comparison) and the consensus is he is virtually INSIGNABLE after 2004......Did I mention he is one of the least marketable "stars" in baseball? The reason I have to hammer these points home in every other post is because it seems so many people here don't even know about these little particulars; all they seem to remember about Magglio is the "O-E-O", a friendly moon-pie face and the highly debatable "best RF in Chicago" tag.....

3. White Sox aren't the ONLY team that wants to make a smart trade and make themselves BETTER. Do you think that had Garciaparra had a 950 OPS/125 RBI season, stole 20 bases, won the Gold Glove, made only 8 Million and had actually excelled in the playoffs, leading the Red Stockings into the World Series promised land, do you think for a MOMENT that they would be getting rid of one of the most recognizeable players in baseball who could produce like THAT......for a very good but-not-great-Magglio???? Common, they may be stupid, but not THAT stupid.......They are not running a "let White Sox f*** us in the ass" charity and as such there is a BIG risk (Nomar and his wrist thing, Magglio and uncertainty whether he'll pefrorm in front of big crowds and will ever do anything to justify 14 Mill salary, etc) for either team, especially the money-strapped White Sox, in this blockbuster of a deal.

I think this trade is certainly big by Sox standards (Uribe, Shownweiss), but I feel it's NOT as BIG in terms of its importance to Sox 2004 playoff chances as people make it out to be. I am more concerned with whether or not Billy Koch, Paul Konerko and Jose Valentin's salaries can be dropped without getting overpaid bums like Perez and Garcia in return. I am concerned with wheher Garland can step it up, and whether Wright can be what Gary Glover as a long-man in 2002, and whether or not Buerhle of 2001 or 2003 shows up, and whether or not Lee and Thomas have their 2003 success and if Rowand can indeed smoke LHPs and Jeremy Reed RHPs, and if Harris can muster a 330 OBP and if Crede can drive in 80+ runs and Kelly Wunsht allow less inherited runners to score and if one of Neil Cotts/Jon Rauch/Pacheco/Diaz steps up and makes it easier on everybody else and if Shownwiess can get his breaking ball over, becoming a LH Sullivan, if Olivo can hit a slider.........and OF COURSE wthether or not Jerry Reindorf will (wisely) open up his checkbook a little to get us one more IMPACT player should the Sox find themselves in CONTENTION by the ASB.

And more.

This makes no sense. How could one year be any more or less accurate than another?

I would like the deal for several reasons:

1. We would have a legitimate hitter at SS.

2. We could potentially trade Nomar for pitching.

3. We would remove Maggs' 14 million albatross salary.

4. A SS is harder to replace than an outfielder.

5. We could have a SS who has something to prove.

6. We could have a marquee name in the Sox lineup who can drive in 120 runs.

7. We would improve our offense, IMO.

8. We could use Nomar to command the best package of talent we can get from several teams.

9. We take a load of thunder away from the Cubs and their unimpressive offseason moves.

10. We could really f-ck up Danny Evans' whole offseason and stick it up his ass sideways, thereby killing several of his potential moves. How you like us now, Danny Boy?

I just can't get into that - I mean, once upon a time, I loved gawking at other guys' wives and girlfriends, but I can't get off on it anymore. I guess I'm getting soft.

I guess I just wouldn't like it if other guys did that to my wife. I will admit that I am married to a looker - a very beautiful woman with a great body. How did I get her? Don't have the faintest idea, and don't care. I got her. However, the 7 comments I heard on my wedding day along the lines of "how in the hell did you end up with her!" or "how did a guy like you get a girl like her!" really pissed me off.

So I married way over my head - who cares? She's MINE, and ALL MINE.

Yes, I'm large.  And yes, I'm big.  But that's okay, I think.

And yes, she's small and tiny.  But who cares?  Even in the animal world, the big ones can still mate with the small ones, or something like that.

  :lolhitting  :D

Hey. The important thing is to be happy. If you love each other, who cares what anyone says or thinks.

In all seriousness, though, I had to work a double yesterday, and came home wiped. I finally woke up around 5 PM to hear all this trade talk. And now it hurts to know that it might be all for naught.

I really hope this thing goes through. Look - Kenny has been bashed by me and countless others for years, but at least he's really trying. I'm only sorry his hands are so tied. But if he could pull this off, I think he would end up in the catbird seat. And if he was, I think he could make Dan Evans lick the toejam out of his shoes, if he so wanted to.

If this deal goes down, then we finally hold a trump card. It's been a long time in coming, quite frankly.

There is no way of knowing how all this will turn out. I just hope that when Opening Day (Capitalized because it is a Holiday!) rolls around, that we have a good complete cohesive team that can win the division and do some serious damage in the post season.

KW get's bashed a lot around here, and most of it is for a good reason. His hands are tied by the payroll however, and I think he's actually doin a good job this offseason. He's not shoppin his major players e.g Maggs and Lee because if he did this, than he would get far less than what has been currently discussed. I would be stoked with a Mota, Perez and Miller package from the Dodgers for Nomar or Maggs and that's exactly the type of trade KW needs to make. If we can get some stud young prospects we should be fighting Cleveland for the next 5 to 10 years. Guys like Reed, Cotts, Honel are the future of our ballclub.
