spataro51
I know some people are upset about the chances of losing maggs makes them angry, well it is understandable, but you have to look at it this way. If maggs isn't willing to sign with us after next year for a reasonable price, and we know that we cannot keep him. Well what is the point of letting him stay here for this year. We have a chance to make the team better, heck we can get one of the best defensive and offensive shortstops in the game and also we get a decent reliever/closer also. 2 for the price of 1. Maggs was also one of my favorites, he will be missed, but this team did nothing since this core has been together except a playoff appearence in 2000 that they were swept in. I wouldnt' even count 2000 because they didn't even put up a fight against seattle. Its time for a change, and sometimes you have to trade the best player to give you a chance to do something that to make the team better. you have to try new game plans because the old plan keeps on failing. But...........................All this intense hype about the biggest trade ever in baseball history could all be for nothing if they can't get the union to approve. In my opinion i still think this deal will go through without the restructuring of arods contract because off all the attention that has been going on with this trade and especially the attention it has recieved today. Nomar, ARod, and probably Maggs at this point(maybe) has had their image and heart broken to the teams that they are currently on. Maggs, Nomar seem to probably realize that they are not wanted anymore, and arod will feel like an a@@hole if he stay with texas with his teamates and his coaches knowing that he thinks their team is a bunch of guys that cant win. There has been to much damage to the teams and players if this dea falls through. This is why i see this going down. Boston is just trying to ease some of the burdons they will take on with arods contract which is very understandable.

spataro51
Nomar, plays the hardest position in the game and he plays it extremely well. Not only can he play the position he can hit the ball also, if i am correct i think he won the batting title 2 times?

witesoxfan
Nomar will never be as good as he was before, nor will he be good as magglio... Since Maggs best season of .320 40 135 is so much better then Nomar's second best season of .357 27 104 where he only struck out 39 times in 135 games, or Nomar's 3rd best where he had a .323 35 122 season where he struck out only 62 times in 140 games(though he only walked 35 times), and I should not forget to mention Nomar's 2000 season where he hit .372 21 96 in 140 games. I should note that in 2000 his K-BB ratio was under 1, and he walked 60 times. The least Maggs has ever struck out in over 140 games is 55 times or so in 1998. He also hit .280 15 70 that year with 30 walks. The only time his K-BB ratio was ever at or under 1 was in 2001 when it was exactly 1. Nomar is a better player, and this is a hell of a good baseball move no matter what happens.

southsideirish
Nomar is nowhere near the talent Maggs is. How can anyone argue that??? What? Magglio is only 1 year younger than Nomar. Nomar is a 2 time batting champ. Former ROY. He led the league in triples one year. Led the league in Hits. Led the league in doubles. He is a great fielder, really good base runner. Maggs hasnt done any of this. Magglio lolly gags in the field, has never won a batting title, and is a terrible baserunner. What makes you think that Magglio is anywhere close to the player Nomar is? I love Maggs too, but be sensible. DAMN! This quote is the dumbest thing I have ever heard and we are all dumber for having read it.
greg775
I stand by my quote. Maggs is so much better player than Nomar it is sick. Maggs is taken for granted because he plays here and we see him every day. I laugh at people who think other players are so much better than the ones we have here. You think Nomar hustles every play??? Give me a break. No ballplayer today truly hustles like Brett, et. all. Maggs is as good as they come in the 2000s. I'm sorry but nomar is a better fielder at a much tougher position to field and a better hitter. End of story.

I think you need to start watching other teams than the White Sox. There are more teams in the league with players that know how to run bases and that do hustle on defense. YASNY
I'm not sure that I don't agree with Beastly on this one. Magglio had a SLIGHTY down year in '03 and everybody bails on him and thinks Nomar is God's gift. Well, to Mia Hamm, he might be. But, in '03, his defensive numbers were right on par with the terribly s***ty defense of Jose Valentin. Yet, he's considered a great defensive SS. Both Magglio and Nomar are very good solid ballplayers with their own strengths and weaknesses. It's a matter of weighing one's abilities vs. the other in the context of your particular team. As for which one is "better", to me, that's a toss up.

YASNY, look at what Nomar has done in last 3 years since his injury....Anyone who thinks Nomar is still the same player he was isnot right in the head. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here, I guess. But, when someone tells me that Nomar is much much better than Magglio, and belittles Beastly because he is sticking up for a guy who has been a fabulous Sox player, well, I have to question their motives, biases or perceptions of baseball. Something has to be out of kilter.
