Haaaaarold
Looking back on the Everett situation, might it be easier to sign Maggs after next season if we do indeed trade him? If we hold on to Maggs for the upcoming season we would have to offer him arbitration most likely. If that happened, Maggs could accept and possibly be awarded much more than he would get on the open market. Granted, it would only be for one year but that goes back to my earlier question. Maybe (pipe dream I suppose) we could sign him to a deal at the end of next season for less than we would have to pay him in a long term deal right now. I think the Everett case is a good example. We wanted him, couldn't risk offering arbitration, we lose him. He signs for money from the Expos that we would have gladly given him! Some of the rules put in to protect the players are really limiting their own options! Just a thought!
winninguglyin83
Not sure Maggs luvs Chicago so much that he would rush back. Isn't he big budds with A Rod, working out with him in Miami during the off season. gotta figure that is part of this. and Boston will luv the guy to death once it sees that personality wise he is the anit-Manny. Haaaaarold
Not sure Maggs luvs Chicago so much that he would rush back. Yeah...I have wondered that for awhile myself. Back when he was a minor leaguer I remember Ozzie popping off about how the Sox embarrassed this young minor leaguer from Venezuela by leaving him off the 40 man roster. Then he claimed this kid was the "Babe Ruth" of Venezuela. (Ozzie does have a way to make things more exciting than they usually are doesn't he?) When Maggs was reluctant to sign the 3 year $30 million deal, I wondered if he really wanted to be a long term piece of the White Sox organization? It is too bad.........with the historical connection to Venezuela I would have thought Maggs would have loved the White Sox!
BrandoFan
and Boston will luv the guy to death once it sees that personality wise he is the anit-Manny. If he hits (99 RBI) and runs (slower) and fields (declined) like he did in 2003, they are gonna turn on him very quickly. Before you know it, "class act" will turn to "boring". Some of the rules put in to protect the players are really limiting their own options! Just a thought! Why not just take care of him and lock him up for a number of years and be done with it. He's as solid a player as anyone these days and he doesn't want 50 mil a season so just pay him what he's worth and be done with it. You get rid of Maggs and you alienate an already shaky fan base. Do the right thing JR/KW.
