Guest Nomar7
Hey everybody, I have some news on the trade front. I just got off the phone with Dan Stouter who is very close to G.M. Kevin Towers. He told me the White Sox and the Padres have agreed to a deal to send Valentin to San Diego in exchange for Kevin Jarvis. This deal is contingent on the Nomar for Ordonez trade. Your thoughts? I don't see the logic behind this deal.

I don't see the logic behind this deal. The logic, I assume, would be that if this is correct, we'd be keeping Nomar, and unloading Jose's contract on someone else in exchange for pitching. The Sox almost picked up Jarvis last season, so they must like him for some reason or another. I don't like it because it means we're keeping Nomar. Jarvis isn't of Latin descent, however, so I don't expect this to happen.

Soxbadger
What it means is that if this is true, the Sox are keeping Nomar and shipping Valentin for whatever value they could find. SB
sox-r-us
Why do we need someone with a 5.83 ERA? At least this answers the question of whether we are keeping Nomaaah or not.
SuperSteve
Um, I would perfer Lawrence (duh). I am not sold on Nomar either, but he will give us a superstar at the highest profiled position.

BrandoFan
Good trade, eh: Kevin Jarvis is actually OLDER than Jose and his career ERA is OVER 6.00 when adjusted for AL. And he hasn't exactly been a paragon of durability and good health.. I know this is a bogus rumor, but for the last time: pitching does NOT win championships. GREAT pitching does. Idiot(s). PS Did I f***ing mention that Jarvis made 3 Mill last year, so the salary saving will be minimal?
LostInBoston
Jarvis is owed a whole lotta money. I don't know how much, but I know SD has been trying to dump him on anyone and everyone they trade with. In fact, in initial negotiations with the Pirates on the Giles deal were delayed because SD was so insistent on dumping this guy. I don't like the smell of this...if its for real. But I am in total agreement that this really would be a stupid move by KW. You can't argue that Jose has his moments when he is effective, even stellar at times, whereas I can't see anything Jarvis does well other than keep the trainer's table warm. Guest Nomar7
Trade makes no sense what so ever, and everything I have heard says Valentine to Seattle, so I whouldnt take this rumor to the bank. I can assure you that this trade is indeed done. Like I said, once the 5:00 (ET) deadline comes, Nomar will be on the White Sox, while Valentin will be sent off to SD. sox-r-us
Maybe the Padres are pikcing up portion of the salary....I see this as a salary dump Maybe we plan to use him in relief (long relief only?) Dunno why we would do this By the way, there is no validity to any of the Val to Seattle speculation......I listen to Seattle radio everyday and not one peep about it (and they do talk baseball)....they rather keep Guillen Seattle loves great D, which is why they were taking the chance on Omar (and also because he lives there and loves it hence would be motivated) Val does not provide great D..... Wong & Owens
What is the deal with stating something won't happen cause he is not of latin decent? Do all sox pitchers have to be latin now? No, all Sox PLAYERS must now be of Latin descent. It is the will of JR--"I would trade all six NBA titles for one all-Latin White Sox team." It's tricky, but KW is methodically putting the pieces in place. Don't ask about the recent Mark Buehrle extension--I cannot always decipher the moves of "El Gran Purifier Blanco." Harry Chappas
I know Dan Stouter and this my friend is not a comment Dan Stouter would make. He works the free standing Coke stand behind Section 574 at the Jack. As of this morning he was paying tribute to his San Diego Clippers shrine to Nate Archibald while wearing his Charlie Joiner jersey and listening to the call of the Leon Durham E-3 play. He told me there is no truth to this rumor and Bruce Willis is coming by later for tea.
