Hopefully he'll be used in the 2-hole more this season, as it's obvious that he's most productive hitting there.

 

With Magglio likely gone, Carlos will be asked to hit #4, unless Sox get Juan Gonzalez-type producer.

I have to say i like this.  I was never a big carlos fan until last year.  He decided to get his head on straight and he proved what he could do on both offense and defense.  We may have slightly overpaid, but hey.......i have a feeling he'll be worth it.

Carlos "getting his head on straight" was more along the lines of him maturing as a big league ballplayer. People wanted to give him away last off season. It takes time for these guys to grow and develope into quality MLB players. The next guy who will step up is Jon Garland. It's his time.

Way to prioritize

Im gonna pretend that I didnt just see someone calling Carlos a dumbass after the stats he just put up.... And what do you mean he cant catch a ball coming right too him.. he had about 15 webgems last year, and besides at the Metrodome and the SkyDome, he only had 3 errors....... Mostly on down the line balls that hit the wall funny and he mishandled...

 

So anyway... Congrats Caballo on the contract extension... You damn well earned it... More Carlos fans will be coming... maybe one more year will get their attention...

White Sox agreed to terms with outfielder Carlos Lee on two one-year, $15 million contract with an option for 2006.

Lee gets $6.5 million next season and $8 million in 2005. Chicago has an $8.5 million option for 2006 with a $500,000 buyout. This looks like an awful lot of money to give to a corner outfielder with a career OPS of 814. The White Sox look at 2003 as a breakthrough season because of his 113 RBI, but it his 830 OPS says it wasn't. The White Sox are probably making a mistake by thinking that he'll hit so well with RISP again in 2004. 

 

Its another case of the White Sox slightly over paying a young player in return for buying out his arbitration and first FA years. We'll have to watch the games to see if he turns into a bargain in 06.

 

It will be interesting to see how Ozzie uses him, Manuel batted him anywhere from 2nd to 6th. I personally would hit him 3rd and follow him with Maggs, Thomas and Konerko.

Glad he got re signed,but he better not a pull a Konerko in 2004.Hope he realises he'll have to work harder to get the same results he had in 2003.I believe he can be a 30/30 guy if he really works at it.But the base running must improve!!

Not to mention, his belief that his RISP numbers were fluke is pure bull.

I've posted the situational for Lee the past 3 yrs. Every yr he's improved.

You would have to belief that with a commitment of 15/2 & even better 23/3 to Lee

that the SOX will work much harder with him in the offseason to improve vs LH pitchers & NL pitchers. If you bother to look at the details of his stats, he already crushes most RH pitchers. So it's not a question of talent. As Brandon said he should be much better against LH. So it's either mental or something with his vision. Either way, I'm sure the SOX will help him out.

 

I read in the Sun-times today, that Kenny had teams practically lining up to trade for Lee after his 2003 season. There was even a reference that Lee would command more talent from the Dodgers in a trade than Maggs. So clearly many other teams see Lee in a different light than you do. By the way Kenny's response every time was he is not interested in trading the 27 yr old.

Carlos Lee dispeled my doubts about whether or not he has talent in his first game ever with the Sox when he stepped into the batter's box and lined a 1-2 low slider into LCF seats for a grand slam.

 

Since then he's been a been a huge enigma. An under-achiever in layman's terms.

 

As far as talent, Sox have some pretty f***ing talented individuals in Konerko, Valentin, Lee, Olivo and Crede. Now fullfilling it is another story altogether....
