KipWellsFan
If you know of decent players becoming officially available make it known! from rotoworld.com Mike Lincoln - R - Pittsburgh Pirates Dec 20 Pirates non-tendered RHP Mike Lincoln. The Pirates never tried to re-sign Lincoln. They did attempt to trade him, and at one point during the winter meetings, they believed they were close to completing a deal. Flash Tizzle
The indians signed Porzio..... Noteables: Orlando Palmeiro declined the Cardinals' offer af arbitration. Palmeiro still could re-sign with the Cardinals, but it's more likely that he'll head elsewhere. A return to Anaheim is a possibility. Payton will definitely land a starting job somewhere. The best bet is that he'll become the Mets' right fielder, but the Rangers, Dodgers, Cardinals, White Sox and Red Sox could also pursue him. Guest Hex Rudler
Wow. That is news on Jay Payton. All the talk in the Denver papers this week is they would sign him. He is a quality player as long as he is in left field (so so arm). He'll make some team a lot better.
Capn12
I just don't see Payton doing much outside of Coors, maybe I'm wrong. I was never too impressed with him in NY.

KipWellsFan
couple more pitchers, as usual reported by www.rotoworld.com Jason Johnson - S - Baltimore Orioles Dec 20 Orioles non-tendered RHP Jason Johnson. Johnson could have earned close to $4 million in arbitration, so the Orioles made the right move here. However, Johnson will be a popular free agent. He should become one of the Rangers' top targets and the Giants could use him as their fourth starter. Damian Moss - S - Baltimore Orioles Dec 20 Orioles non-tendered LHP Damian Moss. There should be several small-market teams interested in taking a chance on Moss. Our guess is that he'll land in Milwaukee. Jeremy Fikac - R - Oakland Athletics Dec 20 Athletics non-tendered RHP Jeremy Fikac. Fikac could be re-signed by Oakland. Especially with Mike Neu gone, he appeared to a top candidate for one of the open spots in Oakland's bullpen. Mark Redman - S - Oakland Athletics Dec 20 Athletics non-tendered LHP Mark Redman. Redman was worth at least $3 million last season, but the A's didn't want to pay him that kind of money for 2004. Some team will probably give him $6 million over two years. KipWellsFan
Danys Baez - R - Cleveland Indians Dec 20 Indians non-tendered RHP Danys Baez. In a smart move, the Indians decided against going to war with the MLBPA over Baez. The 26-year-old reliever might be considered for the closer's role in Pittsburgh, but it's more likely that he'll sign with another team as a setup man. from rotoworld.com Could be a decent pickup but will probably be too expensive for us, as teams will be looking to him to potentially close. I bet you he'd pitch well against the Indians.

KipWellsFan
rotoworld.com Jayson Durocher - R - Milwaukee Brewers Dec 20 Brewers non-tendered RHP Jayson Durocher. Durocher, a pleasant surprise in 2002, missed most of last season with shoulder and elbow problems. He could be re-signed to a minor league deal. Extremely good in 2002 but was plagued with injuries in 2003.
bulokis
I wish KW try his best to sign 2 of these starters, Redman, Moss and Armas. Garcia is too expensive and he just signed with the M's for 6mil+. If the Mariners cant sign Piniero or Meche, I would kill to have eitheir one of them. How about Edwin Almonte or Scott Sauerbeck? 103 mph screwball
The Sox are going to have to stick their neck out and go over budget. Then deal Ordonez, Konerko, or Koch. Otherwise, they might really miss out on some deals. If guys like Johnson, Redman, Baez, or other players that can solidify the pitching staff can be signed at reasonable prices, they have to do it. I'll keep wishing for Maddux until he is gone. I had hoped to get front line pitching for Ordonez like Perez, Garcia, or Washburn. Heck with it. Trade him to Baltimore for Roberts and prospects. Trade him to Seattle for Winn and prospects. Work out a different deal with LA, Boston, St. Louis, or Anaheim. Make it happen. Teams are more likely to make a deal if the Sox will accept less pitching. Sign the pitching. I'd rather have 4-5 good players that fill needs than one great Magglio who will not take 48 million for 4 years. Magglio is worth more than Roberts. But I'd rather have Roberts and a prospect plus the money to sign Maddux and Johnson or Redman. KW, I'll donate $100 bucks for Maddux or a legit proven leadoff hitter. Pass the hat. Sauerbeck and Almonte (I'm assuming you mean Hector) are both terrible. Sauerbeck gives up huge innings and Almonte knows one pitch, fastball. It's really fast (8K/9IP with MON) but it's also perfectly straight (6.83), he's a poor-man's Billy Koch. Edit: Whoops, maybe you didn't. But everyone got a bonus scouting report on Hector. Signing him would shut up some of the fans at least.

I agree with almost everything you had to say! I'm not sure if Dave Roberts would be the answer to any of our problems, but its a thought... As I've said before I still have no problem moving Magglio, trading him for pitching, signing Jay Payton to take his place really doesnt seem to bad of a move to me...I mean we lose ALOT of offense but by gaining pitching arent we making ourself better? Chisoxfn
Looper and Baez would be two good fits and I'd like someone like Scott elarton to a minor league deal. When healthy that guy can be pretty damn good.
KipWellsFan
Cliff Politte officially available, good right handed option (rotoworld.com) Trever Miller - R - Toronto Blue Jays Dec 21 Blue Jays non-tendered LHP Trever Miller and RHP Cliff Politte. Politte was designated for assignment last week, so he was already gone. Miller's departure was unexpected. The Blue Jays figure to attempt to re-sign him. Pastime
Supposedly, Ozzie is able to get "the most" out of his players, so let's sign a few of these "bargain basement" guys and let's see how true that is. Like Yasny said, our pitching staff could be a hell of a lot better without blowing a huge wad of cash. Like we have a huge wad to spend anyways. Also, I think Pavano and Penny from Florida are available as well. However, we do need to keep SOME hitting in order to score runs for our garage-sale pitching staff. 103 mph screwball
Looper's away splits have me worried. In fact, all of the Florida pitchers stats may be products of their ballpark. In general, I'd like to stay away from National league guys. There are exceptions like Maddux, Livan Hernandez, or Jiminez for Colorado.
