The Shoeneweis Era comes to and end

Pitcher Scott Schoeneweis' tenure with the White Sox was brief. He was not offered arbitration by the 11 p.m. deadline Saturday, making him a free agent.

The left-hander, who was used out of the bullpen after he was acquired from the Anaheim Angels in late July, would have competed for a spot in the rotation this spring had he been retained.

The Sox were unable to reach a pre-deadline agreement with Schoeneweis like they did with outfielder Carlos Lee and reliever Kelly Wunsch, who also were arbitration-eligible. He could have made $2 million if his case went to a third party, a chance the Sox weren't willing to take.

Schoeneweis was 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA for the Sox last season. Overall, he was 3-2 with a 4.18 ERA.

I never did learn how to spell his name. :D

Not much of a suprise really, saves us another 2 to 3 mill from our 59 million dollar payroll. So now we hav 3 definite starters in our rotation that is Buerhle, Loaiza and Jon Garland. We definitely need 1 starter in the free agent market that has pitched sucessfully in this level e.g Livan Hernandez, Sidney Ponson, and 1 otha starter that we need to take a chance on e.g Damien Moss, Tony Armas Jr. If Cotts isn't included in the Boston deal, he could still fill the #5 spot in our rotation if he has a great spring training like Josh Stewart did last year. Actually Stewart will be an interestin guy to watch in 2004 to see if he can make it back to the White Sox. :o

I honestly didt see this one coming, although I'm glad it did. I was sure that KW was gonna do everything in his power to let Schoen take, and fail, in the #5 spot in our rotation. Fine by me, KW. No way in hell should we have risked paying Scott Freakin Schoeneweis $2 mill.

Another trade that leaves with with nuttin to show for it.

Somebody will give Schoeneweis a chance because he is left-handed and can start or relieve. Guys like that are valuable and hang around forever.

The Sox gave up Gary Glover for him. Glover was released by the Angels and signed a minor league contract with the Cubs. Chances are, if that trade was never made, the White Sox would have released Glover after the season was over, so not getting anything for him was really no big deal.
