C.Rector
Excerpts from an article at: http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...t=.jsp&c_id=cin Avoiding salary arbitration with two of their projected regulars, the Reds agreed to one-year contracts Friday with catcher Jason LaRue and second baseman D'Angelo Jimenez. LaRue, who earned $1.25 million last season, received $2.6 million, while Jimenez's salary rose from $345,000 to $1.615 million. Jimenez, 25, hit a combined .273 with 14 homers, 57 RBIs and 11 stolen bases for the Chicago White Sox and Reds, which acquired him in a July 6 trade. As a Red, Jimenez batted .290 with seven homers and 31 RBIs. During the season's second half, the switch-hitter led the team in games, runs, hits, total bases and doubles and tied for the team lead in homers. In other words, Jimenez can't hardly field in a league that does not have the designated hitter, yet his sorry performance merits a quintupling of his salary? Truly, under the current management, the Reds are doomed to the basement of the weakest division in major league baseball.
Loaiza21
Trading him was kind of pointless though. He's a good hitter. Sometimes.
maggsmaggs
Jimenez is a bad fielder and base runner, but that can be fixed by good coaching (did you think Jerry Manuel could help him?) Overall, he is an above average hitter, young and a switch hitter. I would take him back over Harris, just because he can hit.

Overall, he is an above average hitter, young and a switch hitter. I would take him back over Harris, just because he can hit. I disagree. Willie Harris always seems to me that he's actually got his head in the game and not up his ass like D'Angelo Jimenez. Jimenez is a lazy piece of s***, he has all the potential in the world to be a great hitter, but his work ethic has held him back. I'll take Harris over Jimenez any day. Harris works his ass off, and has something that Jimenez will NEVER have. SPEED. CWSOX45

southsider2k5
When and how did we develop all of this hate for Jimenez? After watching his lazy ass (not) play most of last year.

CWSOX45 You know D'Angelo did a nice job for Cincy and right about now I would love to have him here instead of praying that willie can hit atleast .200 this year. Do you really think that Ozzie would be able to sit there and watch Jimenez slack off?? I dont think so. He would be the best second basemen on our team without a doubt and you know what he is one of the better one in the league and still has a high ceiling if/when he starts to put his heart and soul into playing baseball. I still feel that he will be a good player and that we gave up on this kid way to soon. JMO
elrockinMT
What I am worried about with the Sox and their evaluation of available 2B/SS talent is the fact they seem to go bonkers in their quest. Jimenez was touted as a great pick up and the next star and then reports come out about a bad attitude, not a team player, lazy, etc. We saw that displayed in Chicago and he was gone. Now we have Uribe and everyone touts him as the Ozzie Smith model, but maybe weaker with the bat. Now we hear reports of a Jimenez like clone coming to town. I am very confused. Chisoxfn
I always was a big Jimenez backer. Statistically he was better then Roberto although that isn't everything and I do think Ozzie would of possibly been able to light a fire under him. I was pissed when the Sox lost Jimenez. Him and Bittner eventually turned into Scott Schoenweiss.

cwsox
When and how did we develop all of this hate for Jimenez? No one "hates" jimenez. He was a terrible ball player. I have never seen a player lay on the ground during a play like he did when he missed the ball. He'd just lay there and not get back up and get back into the game. That might be msised on tv because the camera follows the ball and play, but going to games, saw it too much, once was too much - he quit on plays. And he was poison in the clubhouse, made Royce look like Mr. Congeniality. Hate? No way. Way too strong a word. I hate war, not a baseball player. Never want to see him in our unform again does not equal hate by any remote stretch of the imagination.

Molto
people hated Jimenez from the start. 95% of the people who hate him now hated him before even seeing him. nobody cared or gave a rats ass when Jimenez practically carried the offense over the first mont to two months. is Jimenez lazy? at times he was, but he was no lazier then some of the other players. if you were to put other players under a microscope like people did to Jimenez, you'd see a TON of lazy players who never get picked out. it was a good signing Cincy and with a little guidance, Jimenez could be a good player. the guy broke his neck in a car accident and recovered and was playing most of last season with the Sox hurt, yet he's lazier than the average player. BrandoFan
If you think about it, the guy was scapegoated for ONE bad month of his White Sox career. Yes, it was a terrible month, consisting of nothing buts errors, judgement mistakes, baserunning blunders and hitting slumps. He had a good September, March, April and May; his range sucked but so did Robbie's who had to cheap in the hole just to make "spectacular" plays there because he knew he had no chance of doing s*** up the middle.........Then he prodeeded to have a good July-August-Semptember, making it 7 for 8 in "solid" month. And yet I didn't want him to be gone, but to learn bunting and running skills from Robbie and spell him against LHP. At 400K, his talent was worth keeping around. Now at 1.7 Mill? I'll still take him to give Willie and Uribe a kick in the ass.

I was not one of the 95% then Molto I had high hopes for him he lost me with the lay down plays, not getting back into it it would be terribly unfair to blame one player on a 25 member team for the slow start, of course it remains a team game and I am glad D'Lo is not on our team he did introduce me to Sean Paul though
