Guest wsc425
Hey All, Reports and past deals indicate that the white sox will make another transaction. Last year it was Todd Ritchie and Damaso Marte. A couple years ago it was Amaury Garcia, and Julio Ramirez. One Baseball official says,"The White Sox have been in contact with other teams in pursuit of a number five starter." Tomarrow, it is yet to be the press conference in which the White Sox announce the signing of Tom Gordon's, and Armando Rios' contracts. If Gordon fails his Physical, another option may be Florida's Graeme Lloyd. "We believe this is one of the final pieces to our ball club," says Kenny Williams. Hopefully, the White Sox can trade, go after another pitcher; or sign a free agent like free agent pitchers Robert Person, Jeff Suppan, James Baldwin, Rick Helling, Dustin Hermanson, and previously pursued Jon Lieber. Guest hotsoxchick1
if we dont add a bit more pitching to the staff then i dont want to make anymore moves at all......we need to shore up that pen a bit first and foremost.. if kw doesnt do that much at least then i do not think he means what he says when he talks about being seriously wanting to win ...........we need pitching help.............. Jim Fainter
Forgive me, but who is Amaury Garcia? I was out of the country for a while, and I must have missed this one. Didn't Robert Person get hit real hard the last half of last year? I don't have the stats, but I seem to recall watching him get tatooed in the second half a couple of times. Guest wsc425
Amaury Garcia is a Minor League Free Agent. He was outrighted a while ago. He was acquired for Mark Roberts on December 4th, 2001. He hit .091 in one minor league season as second baseman for the Chicago White Sox.
YASNY
What's wrong with our bullpen? Koch, Marte, Gordon, Wunsch, Glover .... that's pretty solid in my book. Add 1 or 2 of these kids that are supposed to be so good, and the pen should be a strength.

"supposed to be so good" is the key to that sentence.............wunch and glover??? your honestly going to trust those two at relief.....one cant stay healthy all season and the other cant get his head out of his ass long enough to pitch.............gordon im not pinning any hopes on cause hes another injury prone guy... im sure if things look like they arent going his way this season he will be down for the count with an injury... then what????? so all we have is koch (who hasnt pitched one ball for US yet so we cant judge him) and marte who ....well.......ok he did alright last year but he cant pitch each and every game if all the others fail can he now????????? we need help..............face it.............. mac9001
Last season the Sox's Bullpen had a 3.70 ERA (6th in the AL) ,but only 35 saves. They were OK. This season the bullpen should be better. Glover has always pitched well out of the bullpen, Wunch was recovering from surgery, Foulke is gone (sucked as the closer last season), Koch will be better by default. Damaso only got better as the season went on. Plus Gordon is better then Osuna, i dont see how we can have a worse bullpen then last season, which was 6-7th ranked in the AL. supernuke
I think our bullpen will be pretty good but it could use a solid veteren swingman. I never want to see Glover start another game for us.

Unless it's 4 innings....I wouldn't mind a 4 inning start out of Glover...he does very well the first time through the lineup, but sucks after that...4 innings is just to save the bullpen for one inning. That would be a gut check....to see how good our bullpen really is. See if it could go one full game by itself and win...i bet it could. From Glover(4IP), to Wunsch(1), to Almonte(1), to Gordon(1), to Marte(1), to Koch(1).....I bet it could go the game.

Me and you seem to find more things to disagree about. I felt Glover did a decent job out of the pen last year. He was much more effective in relief than as a starter. Wunsch has been halfway decent at getting out that one or two lefty hitter that you need to get by. So, yes, in their defined roles, I felt they were at least adequate. As for Flash, he won't have to carry the load so he can be used carefully so that he remains healthy. Whether Koch has thrown any pitches for us or not, is a moot point. He has been effective in the American League, so yes, I feel that based on that he can be accurately judged and we can have a reasonable expectation of what kind of performance we will get from him. YASNY
Baggio, I agree with you that JM screwed up Foulke last year, and I never said that Foulke sucked. I liked Foulke and always felt he would bounce back and be a dependably effective pitcher again.
